The Story of the Legendary Lake Wyrm From Iceland | Lagarfljót Wyrm

The Lagarfljót Wyrm is certainly not the only mysterious monster living under a lake, but it may well be one of the oldest. With a history dating back to the late medieval times, this cryptid has had sightings all the way up to the modern day. With it's own tale, links to Norse Mythology, and a supposed video of it swimming through the lake, this is one of the most interesting cryptids we've covered yet!

Most lake serpents are probably land-locked eels that can grow forever, which is what happens if they don't go through the spawning cycle in the ocean. There's a lake called Crescent Lake in Newfoundland that was rumoured to have the typical lake serpent, and giant eels were confirmed on a few occasions by divers.

I don't know because there's been a lot of studies that show a lot of these lakes have underground areas that can go from the ocean for thousands of miles into these lakes or into underground lakes or rivers in mountains it's crazy but it's true

Something to consider re. the possible taxa of this as yet proven to exist cryptid is a matter of translation: "worm"/"wyrm" (and other spellings) words in Nordic/Scandinavian languages tend to refer specifically to reptilian snakes but sometimes included actual worms, salamanders, eels and other snake-like fish. How broadly or narrowly-applied such words were depends upon the given language/culture and even time periods.

The picture u showed, which is from a video, is totally real, and it’s a legit and undoctored video. Sadly, just like 2 other videos that seemingly show the same creature, are just nets or something, snagged and flowing in the current. “This” video is pretty clear it’s not a serpent because it’s made of smaller straight sections, as if the frozen part at the surface, has had the ice break with the force of the flow, and the other one clearly has more to it than just a long thin “body”, and has ice growing on the parts on the surface. Also, both of them don’t move the slightest bit(the “heads” are always in the same spot, cause that’s where it’s snagged)

A new, fancy animal will not turn the whole world on it's head. Just last year we found a new whale spacies, Mesoplodon Eueu, a kind of beaked whale. Aside from a bunch of marine biologists, nobody flipped out and most people don't even know that this animal exists. The newly found gigantic Japanese centipede that has a highly unusual amphibious lifestyle, Scolopendra Alcyona, couldnt manage to rouse the public's attention any better. Heck, even when we thought that Venus could harbor microbial atmospheric life 2 years ago after finding phosphine organic compounds there, it mostly passed by without fanfare. Let me focus on the last part in other words; Not even the discovery of potential aliens could make it to the top of the news. I very much doubt an uncommonly big snake or snake-like fish from Iceland would beat aliens.

I have a strong belief that monsters like this are, "drum roll please:" ... Sturgeon!! These fish grow to immense sizes and it hasn't been until modern tech, like... The 80s that we have even been able to pull these things out of the water!! My own Dad caught one that was over 400Lbs. The reason I believe this is because they live in the deep water and come up to breathe. If three of these gigantic fish came to the surface at the same time 3-500 years ago... I could just imagine where the imagination could go! It would look like a 500' long serpent! But.. it's not. It's three seperate fish. Impressive fish be it that, but fish. Not serpent. No one has found a dead sturgeon, so no one knows if they can die of old age but they keep growing. Like the stone fish.
@2M3TAL4U
@2M3TAL4U 2 жыл бұрын
Also, they look so different from other fish that it would look like a beast. They "roll" as they breathe, which would be why it looks like a serpent. There's the Ogopogo in BC, Canada and the ever famous Loch Ness Monster and the one this video is about. All lakes that have a pretty deep rocky base, which is where they like to live There's a story about the lake in my hometown that has them as well. Someone was doing winter racing on the ice and the snowmobile broke through. Come spring someone went SCUBA down to get it and they saw a shadow to their side and they thought it was their diving partner!! It was actually a sturgeon and it scared them so bad they've never been diving again. This is at a lake where there's only jack fish. Sturgeon are hardy survivors, why they're still here today!
