Did the researchers try any of these exercises themselves? I think that they could learn something from that. I have tried to suggest to people that I've played pool with, that they should try switching hands on the cue rather that use the cue rest for difficult shots. They won't even _try_ it.

I found out I was ambidextrous later in life. It wasn't from practice, although I do to test myself now. I couldn't understand why people would ask me if I was left handed. Turns out I naturally did many things with my left hand and foot. As a waitress at a drive in I had a hard time going through the doors as it was made for righties not lefties. I noticed when ready to run the 100 meters I would look at the line of right feet, ready at the line....and I was the only one with the left leading...I still wear a watch as a lefty.... Shuffle cards as a lefty. But the best part .....I can paint and cut in with both hands so I usually have 2 brushes going in both hands...that's the best! If I flip you the bird it will definitely be my right hand. lol

That is very true in my case. I am also ambidextrous and I can use both my hands with ease. The most annoying thing is: people don't believe me. Most of'em doesn't even know ambidexterity is a thing. When I tell them they always ask which one is my dominant hand. And the problem is I don't have a "dominant hand". People just don't get it and I have to prove my skills every time haha.

At a lecture, during intermission, I once demonstrated my ambidexterity for a professor. I don't remember exactly what his field of expertise was, other than it was brain-related. I got the impression from his reaction that he thought it was some sort of parlor trick, something I had trained myself to do.

I was thinking the same thing! The test was to decide if she could use both hands, but the researchers questioning implied he also expected her to be able to paint without looking. Since she can only look at once face at a time, she had to pause here and there. Drawing on one of the faces without looking at it would be a totally different skill lol

A disadvantage of being ambidextrous is that often, it seems, such children are frowned upon. So, parents and teachers would try and impose it on them to be left or preferably right handed. That happened to me. I would write with my left hand until the centre of the page, then put the pen in my right hand, and write until the edge of the page, and then back to left hand. Now, being a Star Trek fan, I read the book 'Spock must die' by James Blish. In it, Mr. Spock splits into two. (It's much like Kirk in the TOS episode 'The Enemy Within'.) One of them is left handed. That one wanted to pretend to be the other one, by practicing to be right handed. But, that boggled up his system, causing him to have a speech impediment. I also developed a speech impediment, after changing to writing with my right hand. That was why. I must find time to practice writing with my left hand, to go back to writing with both hands. I would write with my right hand, and use my left hand for almost everything else.

yeah I know how that feels. im ambidextrous my self and always in school i got in trouble with my teacher because i would start writing with my right hand and then switch to my left hand. teachers always yelled at me to just use my right hand instead of my left. because of that i tried to only use my right hand so i wouldnt get in trouble anymore. but since then i stopped and i continue to use both my hands on a regular basis.

There's a difference between learnt and born ambidextrousity. I had to learn it when I had an accident then it became an obsession. That's why everyone is ambidextrousity to a extended. It's rare thing to be a natural ambidextrous or else you could be cross handed.

I'm ambidextrous, but when I was learning to write, my mom tried to force my right hand... not being mean, but sometimes being left handed is difficult and she didn't want me to have hurdles in my path. I can't fault her for trying to make my life easier. It made me develop a stutter though. My pediatrician told her she couldn't make me right handed, so she stopped trying to force it, and the stutter disappeared. 🤷‍♀️

A disadvantage of being ambidextrous - is not easy to tell the difference between left and right, especially quickly. So, many judgemental people probably think you are stupid, or something. The reason, for not being able to, is not having anything to base it on. I guess one could wear a bracelet, or something, on the right hand. But, would no doubt still need to think a bit.

I'm not born ambidextreous, but rather I'm left handed. But just two years ago, I practice using my right hand to some tasks like brushing teeth, writing, holding spoon while eating, and even holding chop sticks. Right now I can do all of those mentioned except for handling the spoon. I still cannot do it consistently on my inferior hand (right hand).

I can do just about everything with both hands, except, I cannot play the guitar left handed ( because I never trained that way ) and I doubt I can play a left handed piano ( though they don't exist ) Moreover, I play the drums left handed ( and cannot play them right handed ) but I can write cursive writing forwards with my right hand and backwards with my left, simultaneously, and I can read backwards. Go figure. Some ball players who are switch hitters claim they are ampidextrous, to which I reply, okay, let me see you pitch a ball with either hand, ah hah! End of argument. I can pitch with either hand, I can shave with either hand ( the real test! ) etc.

@@patriciodasilva7902 I didn't know about that term quasi-ambidextrous, but based from it's definition, I think you're born with already trained both hands - as opposed to "acquired" skill. That also is something I'm interested to know. Because natural and in-born ambidextrous, though has skills to use both hands, still has different way of thinking because of the way they got the skill. It's very seldom to know people like you who have such skill. I don't need to argue, or to start any. Just absorbing information from other people is good enough for me to learn new things. I even fascinated with natural ambidextrous people because there is no specific trainings or practices to do (if I'm not mistaken).

@@marxLz People who claim to be ambidextrous, if a guy, ask him if he can shave with either hand, or throw a ball with either hand. YOu'd have to be ballsy to shave with your non dominant hand if you were not ambidextrous. Some things I do left handed and I didn't even know it. For example, I ordered a potholder from Amazon, and what they sent me, the the reinforced side of the potholder was obviously for a right handed person, and I realized at that moment when I tried it on that I held pots left handed and I never even noticed it, or thought about it. Also, I used to use the mouse right handed, then I got tendonitis in my wrist and had to switch to using it left handed. No problem, but note that I had use it in photoshop, where finessing the mouse on editing photos ( I used to be a photographer for many years ) came to me easy as I am ambidextrous. When my right finally healed ( several months later ) I got so used to using the left for the mouse, the right seemed awkward for a few days. Throwing a ball left and right handed is the real test, but batting left or right isn't that hard, even for a non-ambidextrous person. Also, writing cursive with either hand, you have to be ambidextrous to do it, though one could train to do it, I met a man who lost his right arm during the war, and he trained his left to write. It wasn't beautiful, but it was legible. The only time one really has to write with the hand is when signing one's name on checks, and so forth.

Ambidextrous doesn't mean you have equal skill on both sides. It means that you have no dominant side. Skill is relative. Even an ambidextrous person can, out of habit, usually use their left. The left hand will be more skillful because it is used most often. I'm ambidextrous for most things, but there are some things neither hand wants to do. I mostly write left, so my right is not as skillful, but left handed scissors are hard to find, so my right hand is more skillful at using scissors. I used to teach painting classes and I would switch hands, as needed, to keep from dragging my hands through wet paint. I didn't even realize it until the students started complaining. I do eye makeup, use a mouse, paint/draw, shoot a bow and gun, etc., with both hands and neither is more comfortable or more able than the other. The ppl in this video are demonstrating practiced skills, but not left/right dominance.

I found out I was ambidextrous in high school. I noticed even though I predominately use my right hand to write and draw, I used my left hand primarily for cutting paper and throwing. I learned that I was able to write and draw with my left hand as well after discovering I can throw and cut with my right hand too.

Baseball is a good sport for the ambidextrous. Luke Venidetti, Greg Harris + Bert Vampaneris were switch pitchers, rare. Switch hitters tend to hit well. Partial list of Hall of Fame players: Mickey Mantle, Tim Raines, Eddie Murray, Ozzie Smith.

Coincidentally, one of the ways that I realized that I was ambidextrous was during ballet class in my teens .. everyone wanted to pirouette to the right .. I made sure we also did the left ! I could do triples but only doubles on my right .. also - used to cursive write backwards with my left in the beach sand very easily .. just the other day, I realized that I throw darts better with my left hand and open a jar with my left hand and hold with my right .. all left people characteristics.. I always knew that I was equally strong if not more able to aim with my left even though I am right armed. I enjoy using both arms to keep my muscles balanced and strong .

You can teach yourself to use your non-dominant hand for nearly everything, and eventually get to a state where there's functionally no difference between you and an ambi. That's not exactly the same thing as BEING an ambi, though. An ambidextrous person should be able to do most tasks with either hand without any mental effort - and while certain things like penmanship and guitar playing take more effort to switch back and forth, it's still much less effort to train than for a righty or a lefty. I love playing left-handed guitar, but not enough to buy one at this stage. But I love playing them in the shop, and I get ideas I wouldn't with a right-hand guitar. P.S. it's not a "superpower" nor does it make you any more special than anyone else to be an ambi - in fact it's occasionally a pain in the rear end. It just is what it is.

I mean it can be learned yes but there are people who are born with that ability they are NATURAL vs someone who has to learn it at a later age. I wasn’t born ambidextrous but I learned it all through school I was fascinated by the way left handed people write ✍️ and the way right handed people write ✍️. Even in baseball when there is a left handed pitcher and a right handed batter or vice versa . I learned how to write and draw with both hands, I learned to shoot hoops with both hands swapping the lead hand, Learned how to bat with both left and right, catch and throw baseball ⚾️ with left and right, play accordion with both sides, play guitar left handed and right handed, it’s so fun to know that this is something almost anyone can learn to do. Once the muscle memory is there, it’s all gravy from there on…

Yeah, lefties have 13 August for their supposed day of awareness, recognition. But, there isn't one for ambidextrous people. Oh well, maybe it can also be 13 August. We ambidextrous people must campaign for such a day. I thought of 20 October. It is based on Astrology. That's the cusp, or change, from Libra to Scorpio. Now, Libra is supposed to be a masculine sign, and Scorpio is supposed to be a feminine sign. But, both are masculine and feminine. So, it's the two, as with the number '2'. An ambidextrous person can also be a balance between masculine and feminine. October was also once the 8th month of the year. 'Octo' meaning 8 - there's the two sides of the letter 8. 20 October incidentally seems to also be 'Information Overload Day', and 'Face Your Fears Day' - appropriate. The Ambidextrous Day can even be 22 October. It would still be the cusp.

I had a similar situation As the girl with brown hair , l used to write with both hands , but slightly more with the left . But my parents used to force me to write with my right , once l broke my left arm when l was just 3-4 years old they decided that l should write with my right more . I lost most of my right (dominant) hand in an Amtrak station escalator in Philadelphia when I was 11, but it was easier for me to learn to write, draw, etc with just my thumb that was the only finger not caught in the teeth, than to write left handed!😂

I’ve been ambidextrous since I was a child. They say ambidextrous people are really just left handed people who are also good with their right, and there is some truth to that. I have clear preferences and disparities, but I can truly do anything with both sides and I don’t know which one will be better until I try. Anyway…these tasks are straight up NOT tests of ambidexterity. They’re tests of general coordination and limb independence, which are totally different. Baffling that an entire professional production crew could miss the mark this badly. Here’s the test: draw a straight line, a triangle, and a circle with both hands separately. Then throw a ball hard and accurately with both hands separately. Then manipulate some two-handed tool both ways separately. Evaluate performance on each trial. Unfortunately that’s very boring to watch compared to this circus of irrelevant BS lol

It's not a superpower to me. Just that my teachers in kindergarten were nuns and they didn't take kindly to me being lefthanded. Getting your hand hit by a ruler, you'd learn pretty quickly to switch hands. But I was young enough that I couldn't tell which was my right hand so I learned to write with both hands a lot of hits with the ruler🤷 and it translated to other things.

I'm not a born ambidextrous, but i stopped using my right and used my left instead to train it cuz it can't even hold a thing properly, and i needed it back then to become good at PC games. Now my right feels weird when i write, it became clumsy. 😆

I practice this I got the idea from Michelangelo because he painted the chapel with both hands he would paint with his left hand until his arm got tired and switch back to right hand to keep on painting.

The host mispronounces ambidextrous the first time he says it, I'm a minute in. EDIT: he says it wrong the whole video..aren't there like editors or QA on productions like this? EDIT 2: host has same issue with the word dextrous, adds extra syllable for the "ous" part on everything, weird.
