This is so close to good enough yet cheap enough to consider, and the fact that some of the biggest gripes are with software is really heartening. Repairability, hardware buttons/knobs, and decent battery life are so important.

Repairability is such a niche and fundamental option even at the lowest degree it is appreciated. In general, iBasso and Hiby are doing fantastic work in the space of DAPs and DACs. I feel Hiby putting value for money product like R4 is a big win, esp. with thier new universal PEQ efforts.

Honestly though, it still is not user-replaceable battery. The only thing they've done is - they've replaced glue with screws for back panel. Which is great, but... the battery is still glued in place and uses connector which means some type of electronics/protection circuit on the battery itself, which greately complicates things. Finding suitable lipo pouch, figuring out how to transfer protection circuit, gluing the battery in... at this point removing typical glued glass would not make that much of a difference.

No existe en estos equipos un circuitos de protección que te impida cambiar la batería.

I predict less than 10% of these devices produced will ever have their batteries replaced. And that's accounting for the assumption that people who want to replace batteries will buy this because of the feature. It is a nice feature. But "there is no exception" is an ideology I'm not behind.

The Galaxy Note 5 had an IPS 67 rating, the same as that of the 6, was cheaper and just as thin. Replacable batteries were gotten rid of because Samsung could get away with it. They did not pass those saving onto the consumer. Moreover, no savings could be worth paying $200 to get the battery replaced instead of buying a standard 3.7V battery like we used to. Dont let american convince you that paying $1000+ every 3 years for a phone is normal and decent. It is a perversion of what sustainable living used to mean for Americans.

@@SuperReview no, the note 5 was abetter device than the note 6. It also had batter impact resistance because the back would act as a deformation zone and pop of instead of breaking. The 6 was so fragile in comparison that you needed a case to be as protective as the 5 without, and thst just made the whole device far more bulky. There us no disadvantage to replacable batteries. The note 5 being better than the 6 despite coming out at a time where 3.7V batteries were far less efficient than today is testament to that.

You can't "vote with your wallet when you have no where else to go. Monopolies are factually unlawful and the FTC and EU agrees, hence the lawful and democratic mandates.

Battery life is a huge gripe for me with audio players - 15hr is ok, but generally, a major reason to accept the inconvenience of having a separate DAP instead of just using my phone, would be to have a lot of battery, so it wont run out. So if it cant compete with my phones battery, and is bulky, with not mobile internet on top... thats a no.

The problem with using your phone is now you have a dangley cable attached to it every time you want to use it. Nice feeling iems cable arnt light, and for me, it would become infuriating when taking it in and out. Also, when you use harder to drive stuff like some closed back headphones, a dongle will waste your battery fast. Daps should be more efficient, regardless.

Does it have double tap to wake screen?

I've loaned it out so I can't check -- forget if I saw that option on this. For what it's worth, some HIby's have this option and I always disable it because it gets triggered accidentally. Seems like Android doesn't have a standard way of doing it.

No, the excellent Sharp screen in this model does not support double tap. I use a volume knob depress instead.

I have DX160 and from my experience: +sound quality +high power -battery life -buggy software I will only use it as a source in a desktop setup or sometimes even stand alone source for full size headphones (it has good output power). I can't us it with Spotify because of often crushes and input lags compared to even a cheap android phone. When Spotify and Mango player are both in use with screen off, the software goes crazy. When pressing play/pause physical button it will play a song from Mango player and when I press the button again it will switch to playing Spotify alternating between both apps in that loop! As a portable players I much prefer older (non android) Sony Walkman players that even with hard use for years still keep battery life at +35h (A45/A55) with great sound when paired with iems.

That mixup with Mango and Spotify sounds obnoxious. I didn't use Mango extensively (because I prefer Poweramp), but something I do when I switch from Poweramp to Spotify is that I force close out the previously-used app -- I force close it, and then also close the notification audio player that usually sticks around because that can lead to unpredictable stuff like you mentioned. FWIW I find this true with all Android devices.

how about dx180 compare to hiby r6 gen3?
@SuperReview

Mostly form factor differences. DX180 feels a bit more premium, R6G3 a bit more practical. Because R6 has app pinning, I'd prefer R6 in daily use.

In your opinion, when comparing the ibasso dx180 with the HiBy R4, is it worth it and why? Is there a big difference in noise, build quality, or user interface? The same also applies to the HiBy R6lll and comparing it to the ibasso dx180. They are better at the same price. In your opinion, the presence of four audio outputs in the R6 is considered something special or just something useless? After another, we discussed the idea of purchasing a DAP and trying it for an extended period😅

vs. R4, mostly it's nicer hardware (build, screen, knob) and slightly better battery life. I think the iBasso has more output power as well, but that's not important for me.

I like my ibasso DX120 because it runs an OS that is simple, light, and optimized for listening to music. It doesn't have a general purpose OS like Android that is for smart phone and should never be on a purist's music player. If you want all those apps and smart phone features...use your smart phone. Another thing... the higher-end iBasso players like the DX260 can boot into MangoOS (better for music players) but this DX180 can't. You're locked into Android.

The European Union has passed a law that states, every electronic device with an internal battery, I.e: phones, tablets daps & laptops must have a removeable battery that can be replaced easily by the consumer. I think it comes into law in 2027. Every company will have removable backs by then.
