I was working in L.A. daytime television at NBC-Burbank and we needed cool music to play as we brought in the audience and got folks settled. Luckily I was with big jazz lovers, and as we taped our shows next to Johnny Carson's stage, we got some cool Tonight Show band suggestions - Supersax & the L.A. Voices and the sweet Sue Raney was played over the PA until we began taping.Week after week. We were educating the masses in a way! Great memories, great musicians, cool jazz, and I have every LP / CD I could ever find of this marrvy combo. Jazz does not get any better than this!

I can’t freakin believe I never thought to search KZbin for Supersax! Gen-X, 1st heard about em in college. Played ensembles in college. “Semi”-pro sax ever since.

Years have gone by, personnel have changed, challenges arise, all since I got the original Supersax album and stunned my friends who could not imagine this could even exist. It shines, because Parker glowed, lighting a path to better standards and more intense jazz art. So, to Med, Buddy, other originals like Ronnel, Conte, Warne, what a fine standard of playing, entertainment, art, pleasure and example youi have given all of us.

A couple of corrections in the L.A. Voices credits, as announced by Med Flory at the 26:50 mark: Gene Merlino (my father) was the baritone, and Mike Redman was the tenor.

As a former radio DJ featuring jazz and other musical genres, I had been aware of Med Flory and Supersax for a long time, but I didn't know what he looked like. Imagine my surprise when I found his name in the credits of a couple of Gomer Pyle USMC episodes, playing an extremely tall, strong and hicky former college football player from a small Southern town. If you had asked 100 viewers of that show to guess what Florey's real job was, none of them, including myself, would have guessed in a million years.

Maravillosa orquesta y maravilloso grupo coral, una lástima que se hayan desintegrado, pudieron haber hecho una carrera porque hacían una excelente mancuerna.Una armonía espectacular.

Bird lives and his choruses are still as relevant as ever. Good sax section and excellent rhythm section (and no, trumpet isn't part of it, contrary to description). Lawrence Marable in particular is doing a great job.

Great drummer……..not one closeup of him as he maintained the beat and had solos, yet he was unfortunately never given a closeup shot. 🤔 🤔 🤔. Must’ve been an oddball in the band. Loved his percussions!
