I was once behind a lady who wanted her money back and the store person said it was not possible so I was like, duh, take my cash and I will use what you put in the machine. Worked for both of us. Don't remember if I won on the tickets but it made her happy

I love the paws (with claws!) on Wild 7 but I have to wonder if the 7 looks the same as every other number because the lottery is hoping people don't see it and throw winners in the trash? That is a ticket I would definitely look for in the trash at the store!

In Maine, on a vending machine there is a button that you can click to get a slip in the value of what you have for credits. You can then take that slip to any lottery retailer, and they will give you cash. So I could put in $20.00, then get a slip. I can also scan a $100.00 winner and it will give me $100.00 in credit. Spend $20.00 and get an $80.00 slip, they will then give me $80.00 in cash at a retailer. And in a wild guess... the tickets that were in the trash was someone scanning them to see if there was a winner. I used to do that with my tickets before I got the lottery app on my phone.

Regarding getting your money returned from a lottery ticket vending machine, I know it wouldn't happen in my state. The store would go into their trusty "Me No Alamo!" mode, and say it's the lottery's money - not theirs. I don't even think you'd get it back from a vending machine inside the lottery office...lol. Perhaps they're more forgiving in TX, but pretty sure it'd be a no-go here in NH.

I have never not intended to spend every dollar I inserted into the machine lol. A regular clerk or cashier would probably not be able to access the cash box in the machine, manager most likely but I'm fairly certain they'd get your money back to you, the machine only says 'No change given', not 'Absolutely, under no circumstances, NO REFUNDS ISSUED' 🤭.
