I was also on the fence about the rook and the rose series so decided to read the first one on kindle before deciding whether to use my skip or not. I loved it so much I read the whole series in the space of a week! Looking forward now to getting the broken binding editions

Best thing about audiobook is you can 2x Scheana and get to a normal 1x speed for everyone else. And I love Orbit as a publisher as well. Really glad duologies are gaining traction. So many series don't need a middle book. I'm so so excited for Durst Spellshop books. A top read last year for me. Yay for more cozy fantasy.

I wouldn’t worry that much. Almost all of Illumicrate special editions always make it into general sale so I believe you will be able to get it.

I am not an Emily Wilde fan either. I was hoping the 2nd one would be better but nope. I actually wrote a note to self: please don’t pick up book #3 😂 I just can’t feel the hype for those books.

Rook & Rose trilogy was my absolute favorite read of last year (still need to finish the third book, tho, but I don't wanna leave these characters behind 😭 ). It has easily become one of my favorite series of all time, so I am really happy for the authors 🥳🥳🥳 Except, well, I find these new special covers to be quite ugly, tbh 😭 It's like they said - what, we have a very vivid setting? Let's use a grim dark filter on it and suck all the life and color out of it! 😭😭😭

I’ve the rook and the rose series, lost of intrigue infiltration, manipulation and spies in a Venice-like city. I do think he original covers are better though, those spider masks are stunning and make sense to the plot

I love Emily Wilde and liked book 2 even more. I think Emily's voice carries the series most for me as I easily vibe with a Mary-Poppins sounding lady. The second book does have a more interesting plot. But I think if you didn't really enjoy the writing and style of book 1, then book 2 probably(?) won't improve much for you.
