The legendary great fast bowler, dismissed him 6x's in 9x Test's & 1972 Rest of The World XI Test's, including a 1st & 5th ball duck. Gavaskar's top score against Australia was 70 & Lillee dismissed him. SG never mentions Lillee I'm the best he faced. DK said SG was medium quality. Greg Chappell scored more Test runs in his era than any other batsman. Speaks volumes. Between 1976 to 1983, Viv Richard's Test Batting Average was a phenomenal 66.17. He had eye surgery for Pterygium, a nasty eye disease, in 1984, which affected his eyesight & reflexes. Lillee, the greatest fast bowler of All-time. @ChallHatt9 ай бұрын
@@graemealexander8804 he was still the first man to score 10,000 test runs and it didn't come easy. Remember he was an opener unlike Chappell and Richards. Facing the new ball every inning is a complex task whereas batting in the middle is relatively easier. Also Gavaskar didn't have the resources that the Aussies or the Carribeans had. India didn't have a fast bowler in their domestic circuits whereas every other nation had fearsome fast bowlers. Gavaskar had to invent new ways to practice and counter the amazingly cruel fast bowlers of the 70s and 80s. And remember the best team in the world in his time were the West Indies and he has 13 centuries against them. So you can keep up with your selective reporting but for me he's still the greatest test opener of all time and the best batsman of his time. Also Malcolm Marshall was better than Dennis Lillee. Period. Heck even the Aussies accept this fact.

Being a Pakistani raised in the Wasim and Waqar era, Asif was the only bowler that provided a glimpse of revival of the Pak bowling attack. Still can't get over it

I think Sunil Gavaskar is talking about the fourth test in 1977-78. India won that match by an innings and 2 runs.

The way Sunil Gavaskar narrate the story is we get the same picture in our mind. Amazing

The pressure built by Gavaskar is leading to the continued selection of Ajinkya in the Indian team and as a result India is losing east matches also.

I think that was the best way for his career to end. He could have lost it later and had to be removed like Amir or he could have ended up as the greatest ever. This "what if" is what makes one think about the magic he could have done. Asif, thank you for those short but amazing memories.
