Thank you for posting this, this really is one of those gems that in the "olden days" (pre-internet) took so much effort to find but now, possibly, can reach more people. Todd Haynes has the most amazing eye, and a real gift for just cutting through all the gristle and getting right to the exact point of a matter a lot of people would shy away from.

I'm a mom of an anorexic daughter....I did NOT find this video offensive, but actually--a great tool in teaching families of other anorexics & bulimics--the hard TRUTH as to the secret things the patient uses to NOT put on an ounce B-4 meals, they'll eat & as you show, throw it up before calories kick in. Coffee & salads were Karen's favorite foods - as it is my 23 y/o (suffering since 12 y/o), she wears layers at the docs for scale. Masters at lying re: food w/a warped sense of self in mirror.

It wasnt necessarily fully understood back then and she woke the world up to the dangers of anorexia and the bing purge syndrome. She was a trailblaser in so many ways including showing women that they too can play the drums or master any instrument. And today, women are dominating the field and are playing frontman guitars, keys, basses and drums. Its a wonderfull thing! And they are absolutly phenominal!

It is weird that it took *this* to tell the truth of Karen’s tragedy. All other depictions have played a part in a general cover-up regarding Karen and the Carpenters. The Carpenters estate actually sued the creator of this and then had it banned and thus . . . covered up. The bizarre nature of this film just shows the plastic madness that her existence was.

So long ago, Karen Carpenter was convinced she was obese even after she'd become practically skeletal (which is much easier to genuinely, spontaneously feel if you don't happen to literally be a plastic doll), & now the U.S. health care system, drug companies, & the media have all adopted the same delusions about people in general as Karen had about herself. Ironically, & at the risk of seeming sadistic. I much prefer the Carpenters' saddest songs. I guess they feel more truthful.

The saddest part about this film is that Haynes could have made essentially the same movie without using the (unauthorized) music; then Richard Carpenter would not have had grounds to successfully sue him, and force it out of circulation.

Apparently, the mixture of Carpenters songs at different pitches (5:38-6:52) is a musical representation of the sad life Karen lived.
