Hey, I really like the sub-maximal weight training style, that Silent Mike and Bart use (probably a lot more too) but I have some problems with choosing how many reps/sets with what weight to do, so I can do clean reps but still progress. I also dont know how to incoorporate progresive overload. Could someone with knowledge about that kind of training style hit me up and we could talk a bit about it, would really appreciate it :)
@janeman4688 жыл бұрын
Try doing a 5x5 with a weight that moves easy, add 2,5 the next session, if thats too heavy do a 3x5 with it and session After that a 5x5. This is just an example, no need to over complicate so dont worry too much, just keep upping the weight or up the sets and reps = more volume = bigger musscles
@timdrenovec8 жыл бұрын
janeman468 I did 5x5 for 6 months and currently Im doing some kind of powerlifting oriented legs push pull, but I dont like it because I feel like its frying my CNS with all the volume + intensity and I want to try sub maximal training style. I have 415 squat 240 bench and 500 deadlift, I dont think 5x5 would give me good progress (except on my bench cus it sux haha)
@janeman4688 жыл бұрын
+Tim Drenovec those are Some Nice Numbers man, I thought you were a beginner so thats why i came up with the 5x5. Currently myself I made a program in excel percentage based, you can find the percentages that match a set of 5 online. I basicly made an easy progression. I start with sets of 8 in week one and go up till a sjngle in 8 weeks. Dropping the sets and reps but upping the weight. Works well for me, its kind of the same thing as 5/3/1 but then 8 weeks long because I found 5/3/1 too boring. I suggest you look it up do for Some info
@janeman4688 жыл бұрын
+Tim Drenovec 5/3/1 is training with sub optimal weight byw
@timdrenovec8 жыл бұрын
janeman468 Thanks :), I tried 5/3/1 for a little while but it lacks a bit of lift frequency and volume in my opinion, but I am still considering it tho

@c1rcaskater9118 жыл бұрын
Just wait until everyone starts trending and doing reverse grip benching for a while and see how their hands are in 5 years... I tried this grip years ago for a while and it felt great on the shoulders but terrible in the hands and wrist. I got some gains and worked up to heavy sets with them after my normal grip bench routine. I am a CPT and I never recommend people doing these. I stopped doing these because I ended up experiencing symptoms of carpal tunnel more frequently when I did them. Then years later carpal tunnel came back hard and had to get surgery on both hands. Reverse grip bench is one of those higher risk-low reward variations and should be done with caution. You are placing the bar right over the carpal tunnel nerve area and heavy weights can cause damage progressively.
@alexpenner20278 жыл бұрын
How is the bar placement in your hand any different in the reverse grip bench compared to the pronated grip? It should not cause any additional extension at the wrist, right? The only difference I could see is that you might have less radial deviation in the reverse grip.
@22ImHuge228 жыл бұрын
+Alex Penner the difference is instead of having the barbell rest in a straight line, the press has a rack similar to the front rack of a front squat. So it's extremely uncomfortable on the wrist, some experience it even worse than a front rack position
