This song will be always out of times: It’s lyrics and tunes perfectly reflect the fear of war and devastations Truly masterpiece

For those who don’t know, the studio version of this song features Scott gorham of thin lizzy on rythym guitar, and the one and only David Gilmour playing lead guitar
@progmeup5 ай бұрын
And the live version features Marty Walsh on rhythm (and lead during the first part, I think - as on the studio version) and the one and only Carl Verheyen on lead. Not too bad!

Thank you for posting - the most unique, intense and incredible tune ever written by them, and the only live version posted. Thanks again.

Way too good of a track to have no officially released live version!

@@Cpayne30 Totally agree - if there was ever a tour that needed captured, it was this one. Thanks.

There's another version up on KZbin now, but the sound quality is a bit inferior: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYXKdquEjduIoK8

strangely enough this makes me think of another brilliant and dissonant song of them : asylum.

It reminds me more of the Roger Hodgson song on their "Even in the quietest moments" album. I can't think of the name of the song. I think this song was a poke at Roger and insight for the listener that their songs were more dependent on finished high quality Supertramp productions than on individual genius of the song writers.

What an absolute masterpiece. Their finest work, hands-down. One of the finest concept/prog pieces of music ever. Have literally waited years for someone to post a live version....it does not disappoint...

Have not heard this in the longest. Always loved Supertramp ... but thank you for this. A real gem.

Always wondered why the ending is so good on this, especially the guitar sax combo, then while listening to the album again and looking at the credits, well what do I see, David Gilmours' name as providing the solo guitar. Say no more, say no more.

Well, they had to get somebody to do it live but as you can hear in this video, Carl Verheyen proved to be totally up for it! Such an underrated guitarist. (He just released a new album called "Sundial" - well worth listening to)

I think this was the first album after Rodger Hogdson left the band. That should have put them in quite the weakened position. Wow! Look at what they came up with! Quite an undertaking, probably especially from Rick Davies. All the credit in the world.

Is there video of this performance somewhere? Would love to see how they pulled this off on stage. It was originally recorded for inclusion on their previous album "Famous Last Words", but they decided that it was a bit too progressive for that album.

I would have loved to have heard what Roger Hodgson came up with for the guitar solos
@klozz20807 ай бұрын
It would probably be a bit out of place on the album, but it’s more because, on the words of Roger: “Rick didn’t want to put his magnum opus on an album produced with such bad energy” or something like that. The recording sessions for this were tense.
