I have been listening to this song for 45 years. It absolutely never gets old. I love how you said the sax was "escorting it out". That was perfect!

Absolutely one of their best! What a way to close an album.

Crown jewel of their crown jewel album. A keyboard tour-de-force, and tasty sax at the end(although I sometimes wish there was a bit more). Dougie Thomson's bass carries the load throughout. Stil fresh, still fascinating, 45(!!) years later. Roger Hodgson's best composition, IMHO. And, Rick Davies on piano--I don't have the vocabulary to describe how great that solo is

Oooh, my favorite Supertramp song. So much goodness. Roger's lyrics, the back-and-forth vocals, Rick's incredible piano solo, great drumming and bass work, John's fabulous sax solo. All the keys. Just faaaaabulous. I can listen to it on repeat for hours (and have).

Supertramp live in Paris was probably the best gig that I never went to, School the opening song is fab but Fools Overture is a a piece of brilliance

They were a great band to watch live in concert; they had the greatest sound system, so you were able to hear everything almost like on their albums.

Nice pick! Lot’s of energy from all of them. Have you heard the “Brother where are you Bound”?. It’s Rick Davies Supertramp after Roger left. It’s a on the long side but great just the same.

After this album (and specifically this song), Roger stayed with the band for one more album ("Famous Last Words") and then left to go solo. He and Rick had different ideas on the direction of the band, which he referenced here. Both Supertramp and Roger continued to release albums separately. Roger's solo releases are very good, his debut "In The Eye Of The Storm" especially.

Very perceptive of you on the 'no reason to fight, 'cause we both know that we're right' lyric. 'Inattentional blindness - when a person does not realize something obvious because they are focused on something else'. -Usually on the wrong things. I think that's the message he is trying to get across.

Breakfast in America is a perfect album! This song is a standout. I can still remember buying this album with my mom when it came out. We sat together listening to it and marvelling at how great it is. We would buy new music on payday and do artwork while we listened. I miss her so much. But I will always have those memories. Good one here.

A great finish for a great album - sadly also an indication of the way Hodgson and Davies musical partnership was going to go. They remained close, but Hodgson was feeling more disillusioned with the way the band was heading and left the band in 1982 after the next studio album "Famous Last Words".
