Supertramp - Give a Little Bit (Live 1977)

Le 23 septembre 1977, dans le parc du Château de Coudrée à Sciez-sur-Léman, le groupe de rock britannique Supertramp est interviewé dans l'émission TSR Citizens' Band. Si seuls le claviériste Rick Davies et le saxophoniste John Helliwell répondent aux questions de Patrick Allenbach, les 3 autres membres du combo, Bob Siebenberg, Roger Hodgson et Dougie Thomson, sont bien présents. Le reportage se termine par un extrait de leur concert donné le soir-même au Pavillon des Sports de Champel, à Genève.

I LOVE this band! Breakfast in America was the very first record album I ever purchased. I could put this video on repeat loop for like an hour and just do housework or anything around the house and feel happy, like a child, when everything was beautiful, magical...Thanks for uploading this gem!

J'ai 30 ans et j'ai été bercé par Supertramp, Queen..... Le wurlitzer et ce groupe sont indissociable. C'est LE son de supertramp. J'ai découvert leurs lives tardivement. Ils jouent leurs morceaux comme en studio. On aime ou on aime pas. Généralement on aime entendre un son différent quand c'est joué en concert. Perso, j'adore! Ce sont de très bons musiciens!

This is not really live. All the instruments are from the studio recording. Only the lead vocal from Roger is live.

@@marc-olivierbecks6027 - nope, you're confused because they sound so dang good live 😉 Seriously though, go back and listen to the original recording and you'll hear that the tuning they've used hear on the guitars is slightly different. You can tell the difference best from the studio recording most by Roger's 12-string part and John's sax solo.

I know they were good live, but here, it is a promo video they did in a studio (this is not filmed at the Swiss show), playing the instrumental tape from the studio sessions and just keeping the lead vocals live.

@@marc-olivierbecks6027 - that's another tell tale sign that this is not the original studio recording. Compare the background vocals of the original to this one - definitely different. I also measure this live version at 95 BPM whereas the original studio recording is done at 90 BPM 😊

@@jim2lane I will never convince you apparently. ;-) You are confused with the average sound quality probably, and also the fact that the tape they are miming on, was a different mixdown from the album multitracks (they did an instrumental mix allowing Roger to sing above it). But the bass lines, drums kicks and the sax solo are absolutely identical to the studio takes. Also, how could Roger sing at the same time his lead vocals and the backing vocals? Another evidence: the electric guitar during the bridge is not played by anyone you can see. The truth is: this is a promo video they filmed in a studio in 1977 to promote the song. This is not taken from a concert (during concerts, I know they played live, e.g. the Queen Mary College 1977 show or the Paris 1979 concerts). And the accelerated tempo is an unwanted effect of the film (24fps) being converted to video (25fps), so the pitch is about a semi-tone too high: on this video the tonality is D sharp, (instead of D major on the album), indicating that the film is slightly faster than it should be (-> you have your explanation for 95 BPM vs 90 BPM).
