That is the old 76 sign from North Baltimore. When I was a kid with my dad in our old 78 cabover International I can remember going to the 76 many times , back when they fueled your truck and washed your windows. Remember sitting at big tables in restaurant with 10 drivers all sitting and talking and telling stories , sure has changed a lot , never forget those memories every time I start my truck now.

I guess my old favorite 76 Truck Stop was in Paulsboro N.J. remember back in the 70's when I first started driving "owner operator" an old ex-Johnson Motor lines cabover International Trans Star with a 250 Cummins and a 10 speed road ranger and with the henderrickson suspension and a grass burner exhaust ,man those were the days. I learnt to Drive a Truck by having my Grand Father that drove for 42 years over the road and local For J.P.Stevens Textile was my instructor and to be honest I can tell you where my Grandfather and I were when he finally got his first nights sleep and was finally able to pull the sleeper curtin and not sleep as he said with one eye open and he said to me was "ok son You got this you are on your own" and i think that was at about 3 to 4 months road time to be honest. But do not think that there was not a phone calls made to him for advice on things such as a "S"cam tuned over on a trailer axle and what to do to fix . And even describing some screwie places on how to maybe back in maybe or truck just simple advice... I miss it so much.. But I'am happy to say I had 20 years without a chargeable accident over the road Thanks to my Training I had and was never lost at all always knew where I was..........Love you videos Dan and the ride alongs..... Happy Trails.....................................

Hey Dan at beginning of this journey when you were still in Michigan. I did witness in person you driving on US 24 near I 696. This nation is so incredibly large and the odds of knowing any soul who by some chance you may have known are astronomical.I was proud to have been on the same road. Thanks for all the efforts you do in producing these videos. Be safe in your travels and thank you for your service to our great nation.

At one time PURE OIL was bought out by Union 76. Their truck stops sold to TA / PETRO. Funny story from about 1970. I worked for a Union 76 gas station. A tornado went thru the middle of town and sucked our huge Orange Ball off the pole. Our ball got rolled gown the middle of HWY 61 and at the end of town took out our local parts store at the bend. I knew the guys that worked there. They said they all watched the giant Union 76 ball coming at them like in the bowling alley lanes thru store picture window. They said they now knew what a bowling pin feels like. The parts shelves fell over like dominoes inside the building. Because that was a perfect strike on the building.....In RED WING, MN

You didn't get excited by the 15 axle trailer behind you. I calculated, that resets cost about 15% of you income, so avoiding resets is the way to go.

Krieghandt, im curious, about ur calculations. Do u run open deck, or u pull a box? Reason why i ask is that most receivers and shippers for guys runnin open deck are closed in the evenings and on the weekends, between that amd other small factors, i, myself find it harder to ru recaps for more than a week.l, amd i always end up sittin on a sunday somewhere...
@Krieghandt5 жыл бұрын
@@masterwoods6586 I was looking at OTR box/reefer, where you spend the majority of your time driving, and assumed no nightly layovers etc. So if you can run 7 days a week, and assume instantaneous drop/hooks (totally fictional, I know) than running 9 hours 6 days, and 4 hours on day 7 will have you on the road for the most hours. If you drive 11 hours a day, and reset, you'll have 15% less hours after one year. So it is theoretical, and will vary by use case. Hope that clears things up.
@masterwoods65865 жыл бұрын
Back when i pulled the refer, ya, i would run 7 days a week like ur saying. 8 hr days... just keep rolling... But with the open deck, its just not that simple. I wish it were, i hate 34's. But what do u do. 😎😎😎

If my memory is right, That old 76 had good food. Some did and others were just slop. Used to be the ones I stopped at in the 80's. That or mom and pop truck stops. They were the best back then. When they were truck stops. Not fuel stops, Good Restaurants and set up for truckers.
