Black Mask would do amazing in an actual real-time film (say in a Nolan film), he's quite realistic but then again also really cool and scary as an actual character.

In all honesty I do not think Nolan would suit this larger-than-life menace at all. In fact, the whole False Face Society thing seems to scream Burton to me, or somebody not stuck in that ridiculous realism worship. Nolan's movies were awesome, but they only really worked for a couple of villains, and those happened to be the ones that he chose (minus the Riddler, which he should have done).

Jem S While I do agree on some parts of this, I think it's undeniable that Black Mask is one of the set few villains that could work for the more realistic approach that Nolan took. The Riddler was another pick that could have worked out - and MAYBE the Penguin with some explanation to his deformity (I believe Nolan said at one point he wouldn't use him for the films, which is a shame - but then again, they said they wouldn't incorporate Robin, and we all know how that turned out...)

***** You know, you're right as Black Mask can take a quasi Scarface-influenced role as a freak drug lord. The Riddler seemed like an obvious choice for Nolan...he could have made for the labyrinthine, cat-and-mouse chase mystery movie that Nolan could have done (like Insomnia) but did not. Instead we got, yeah...Rises. Penguin wouldn't have been too hard, just a stout man of small stature (only in Burton's film and subsequent stories is he a deformed freak).

Definitely. Leo scared me in that movie with how well he was able to play a deranged villain who smugly feels justified in his depravity and sociopathy. If he can convincingly pull off a character with that kind of a mindset (and he knocked it out of the ballpark in "Django") he can definitely do Roman Sionis. Anyone who can gleefully cheer, hoot and laugh while he forces slaves to beat each other to death with their bare hands or sick dogs on a scared runaway slave and make the dogs eat him alive can probably do a guy who tortured a woman (the female Robin Samantha Brown) to death (possibly in a sexual or crypto-sexual manner too) with a power drill and eviscerated Catwoman's brother-in-law to death and made her sister eat some of the pieces. ....After going over some of their crimes it just reminded me again what fucked up characters these people are. What this review doesn't mention is that Roman was kinda nuts even before the whole buyout thing. He was dropped on his head when he was born (seriously) and got bitten by a rabid raccoon when he was about 12, and I think his parents refused to take him to a hospital because they didn't want negative publicity.

Its was never about the money. Janus Cosmetics was owned by the Sionis Family, and thus belonged to Roman. Hell he murdered his parents for that, and when Bruce Wayne bought him out. It publicly showed how weak Roman was as CEO and Bruce Wayne stole what was rightfully his.

There are people in hospitals that are so injured they can't eat with their mouth so they have an IV to inject the food in. But in most version of Black Mask the Mask is apparently so well fused to his face that the mouth of the mask opens and closes with him, so in those versions he just eats normally.

I think the origin story for Joker is conceivable though a little far-fetched. Wood fusing to skin due to fire makes absolutely no sense though, I've always tried to justify it by saying he put some kind of finish his mask with some sort of fictional chemical, like the fictional chemicals Joker fell into, and when that heated up In the fire it allowed the skin to wood fusion to happen. idk sometimes you have to do your own rationalization with this stuff.

Can't quite say he's worse than the joker. He does come off more strongly as far as RAGE, but he's more sloppy and blind to his end game whenever he gets an advantage. And making catwoman's sister go through that was badass, but it's not like the joker couldn't do that or worse(given that the black mask has it out for batman and catwoman specifically) while the joker has never particularly chased some need to go after catwoman/her family; just saying. I do feel The joker has been overused throughout the past 5 to 10 years, but I still think as a villain the joker would be worse in real life as a public threat.

Joker has no end game, he literally changes plans/personalities on a whim. Also no the Joker couldn't do worse, the worst Joker has done is kill a school bus of children and killing Jason Todd really (and shooting barbara to paralyze her) Also Joker is no where near the most fearsome/dangerous villain that Batman faces. 9/10 Joker is a henchman to another villain and is very rarely in the front lines. He's a villain that was over hyped since 99% of non comic fans know who he is and love him without knowing much about him. I like how you had to randomly defend Joker because you felt threatened that he was being one uped. Well sorry, Joker is a low threat to Batman. You want a threat, look to the court of owls, the league of assassins, bane, cassius payne (Clayface 5), prometheus, grundy, deadshot, the sensei, poison ivy (she's hax in the new 52 and has the attachment to "The Green"), Mr Freeze (new 52 is a major player but before he was kind of a joke, he now has a much bigger aoe + he can freeze via touch now), Black Glove, Leviathan (organization), and so forth. It's pathetic really, truthfully I think Maxie Zeus could beat Joker given prep.

(The Joker also knows Batman's secret identity but does not tell it to anyone since he finds it amusing to fight Batman.) He has even had multiple chances to kill Batman but does not. He even became king of the universe in the series "Emperor Joker" and brutally tortured Batman (such as ripping away his flesh while sowing his mouth shut.) AND THEN REVIVED HIM TO DO IT AGAIN! Deadshot has had multiple chances to kill Batman for example, Batman himself acknowledges that deadshot pulls kill shots out of their fights. "king of the universe" Yeah, that wasn't his power, he got omnipotence from another source and that was a shitty non canon comic =w= I mean if you want to take non canon as proof for a character's "bad assness", there are many things for other characters like scarecrow and others who do outrageously amazing things. Heck Scarecrow IN canon has done fucking crazy powerful things in his scarebeast form.

True it seems to be a trend in comic book storytelling to pull the old switcheroo on who the main antagonist is going to be. We've seen it in Iron Man 3 Dark Knight Rises and now in Arkham Origins.

They need to stop doing that, its ruining movies and video games, just use only one villain, its like Spiderman 3 and the Amazing Spiderman 2 all over again. Dark Knight Rises - Bane Ironman 3 - The Mandarin ( the real one from Shang-Chi ) Arkham Origins - Black Mask They could've been amazing if they stick with the one and only main villain that they promised us, but they didn't and they end up being bad, hated and the black sheep of its franchise or trilogy.

Wish Nolan could have fitted Black Mask or Hush into one of his movies, they both have great back stories and would work well in a Nolan film I believe. Maybe Black Mask would be easier to put in then Hush.

Holy shit! One of the first issues i read of Batman, when i first started getting properly into comics, was about Jerimiah Arkham & how he found out he was Black Mask & he ripped out Zsasz' eye. I had only played Arkham games & only heard of characters & didnt know what was going on, so this video explains the story well.
