This is easily one of the best tutorials I've seen for tracking. I sure hope you keep it up, not a lot of other people are able to share their actual mentality when it comes to vfx. Thanks for making this!

Thanks for the kind words. More tutorials are on the way, but work often gets in the way. And I'm working on a lens video that isn't really a tutorial, but more of a, "We've been data wrangling information on set wrong for decades!"

Super helpful. Thanks so much. A few questions: 1. I'm surprised that you have to recreate your Image Prep presets for every shot. Sure every shot is different, but doesn't SynthEyes allow you to save some basic presets into the program? 2. If I understand correctly, every tracked frame records the x & y position, but "key frames" also record the tracker pattern, which will be used for tracking the surrounding frames? 3. So in your first pass, you are primarily setting up key frames every 8 frames, and then in your "QC" pass, you re-track that tracker using the key frames you set up in the first pass?

Here are a few answers: 1. A good question, but here's where Image Prep presets for every shot break down: every shot is different. Even if you had to tweak the settings on your globally saved preset, you still have to tweak those settings. So, I must fall back on my regular disclaimer that none of what I am doing should be viewed as written in stone. 2. Yes, but the "surrounding frames" subsequent to the tracker current frame in the tracing direction, forward or back. 3. Also, yes. The QC pass is just to ensure you did it right the first time and catch mistakes. you also happen to smooth out your track using the Key Smooth value.
