Hi, can you do a tutorial with a LiDAR scan from the iPhone and linking vfx shots with it? Thanks
@editorialbrain
@editorialbrain Ай бұрын
Okay I tried this with a survey and a tripod shot. Once I hit indirectly after pairing a bunch of linked tracker/features to from my tripod shot to the survyey, I got a fail with 105 hpix error haha. All 3 of your shot examples are shots with paralax..... How can I do this same idea but one of the shots in question is a tripod shot? Use case, let's say I get a survey shot, and there';s 10 vfx shots with parallex at that location, but also 3 handheld shots that would be a tripod solve. maybe even 1 ACTUALLY locked off shot, a true tripod shot. How can I use the survey shot master and apply that to my tripod shots so they inherit 3d information? Thanks a lot!
@MatthewMerkovich
@MatthewMerkovich Ай бұрын
Try solving the low parallax shots with the "indirectly" solving technique, or even "automatic." Just check the "constrain" checkbox. With this methodology, you can even solve static cameras.

NEVERMIND! I went to my tripod shot and realized I had runaway trackers. Once I cleared those, IT WORKED!!!!! Thank you for this tutorial. Really cool to be able to solve 3d for my tripod shots. This was bothering me for quite some time. Survey the set always, and then I can apply it to any shot in question. Amazing.

Well... LAST step. I saved as, did lens workflow and tried to send to blender and it claims i didn't run it. I wonder if i need to save as a new syntheyes project, and then remove all the extra cameras and things, and THEN run the lens workflow and send out? Maybe that is needed. Otherwise maybe there's multiple cameras that have various lens distortion information that has or hasn't been run.... Would you recommend a save as and clear out the extra unneeded objects for so its JUST the stuff needed for t he tripod shot in question, THEN run lens workflow and then send to blender? Hey, I'll try it.
@MatthewMerkovich
@MatthewMerkovich Ай бұрын
@@editorialbrain Are you using the latest SynthEyes with the most recent Blender exporter? I'd possibly suggest putting in a support ticket. Multiple cameras, after running the lens workflow, should work.

That was great to see, thank you! I learnt a lot watching that. I never knew that you could lock trackers to stop the scene jumping around, the blips, and the benefits of doing a set survey! I'd be keen to learn more about how this can help shots with low parallax, I sometimes struggle with getting a decent, usable solve when there isn't any foreground objects and only a (greenscreen) backwall in shot.

1:24 I'm curious, with those scenes, which have lack of parallax, shaky camera, a lot of motion blur. How can you matchmove them? I mean... what do you need (like lidar scan, or something else....) to make those shoots to be possible to track? Can u reveal to me ? plz....😊
@MatthewMerkovich

It’s a lot of meticulous supervised 2D tracking to start. No LIDAR. And frankly, SynthEyes makes that possible. It’s got the VFX industry’s very best tracking tools. The work is still hard though. 😉

you said no lens distortion before tracking. does that rule apply everywhere else or just in SynthEyes if I may ask? cause that is something has been bogging me
@MatthewMerkovich
@MatthewMerkovich 5 ай бұрын
I'd say mostly SynthEyes, because the lens distortion calculations are so accurate. Beyond that, depending on the apps you are using, that assertion may or may not apply. But if you are 3D tracking in SynthEyes, you typically want to try letting SynthEyes solve for the distortion first, and only then moving on to other distortion management approaches.

@@MatthewMerkovich I love Syntheyes but sometimes time constraints don’t permit me to jump between programs. And I’m a comp artist so I do the 3d camera tracking in nuke. @@glmstudiogh We all have to play to our strengths, so if you are getting good results staying in Nuke, I say fabulous! But for me, when I was compositing in Nuke (or any other app), SynthEyes was much faster for me. The trick there is having good pipeline and workflow tools to make those transitions easier. For example, the new SynthEyes to Flame workflow makes switching back and forth much, much faster.

Hi Matthew, Thank you so much for making these incredible tutorials! I have a few questions, if you don't mind. It's about scanning green screen survey footage. -Do you need to scan the entire studio? Meaning, can you shoot just the cyc and have enough tracking data? -Would the process be exactly the same? After all, a green screen cyc wouldn't have as much parallax as this footage, no? I noticed that, in your previous video, there was only one c-stand in the foreground, would it be better to have more stuff spread out in the mid-ground and the foreground or would it just get in the way? -If the soundstage/studio is really big, the opposite side to the cyc is really dark. And if the footage has too much noise on the studio side, would you denoise the two halves separately? Thank you again!

Thanks for the great video! I've been binge watching all your content and it's great. You mention at the end of the video about how you could drop that tracker point onto a 3D mesh of a head and hand key the rotation and such while its position is being guided by the tracker. I would love to see a video on that, perhaps even using this same footage? By now I'm sure you've seen The Creator and the wonderful work ILM did with such minimal on-set preparation; often times working with footage that have at most 3 visible dots drawn on the actors' faces, and sometimes nothing at all, all the while producing wonderfully incorporated CGI that fits seamlessly into the live action. It would be such an amazing resource to see how you would go about tackling a similar job of accurately solving a head's motion and getting a CGI element to stick to that live action with zero drift.
