@@StandingStoneKennels Golden Retriever. It's strange. Even if we put him alone with mom and wait 15 minutes he may only get 4-5 grams of food. However, we get him on a bottle and he just chugs it until he's stuffed. He can suck hard, so doesn't seem a palate issue.

That is interesting! Usually if they don’t have competition on momma and they can bottle feed well they will be able to nurse well! How old is your litter?

@@StandingStoneKennels 2.5 weeks old. We have been bottle feeding him since 6 days old when he wasn't gaining as much as his siblings.

I'm expecting a litter of miniature poodles is March. This channel has taken away a lot of my questions and anxiety lol. How many times per day should the puppies feed from their mom? Does the mom regulate these feedings or should I make sure that they feed? Even through the night?

Mommas should just be allowed to be with the puppies all the time as newborns! But that is why we weigh our puppies daily for the first minimum of a week to make sure that we are getting proper weight gains! However, momma should spend most of her time with them and they will nurse as they need to every hour or so. As the puppies get older mom will start spending less time with them as she naturally weans them.

Great video. I have had several Labrador retriever litters. The most I had at one time, now within the next couple days a first time mom, is carrying up over 10 pups. I know I will be supplementing. Could you put a link for the Walmart bottle used and did you create your charts? Thanks

No we don’t have to supplement every litter! It’s all based on monitoring the puppies weight gains!
