Thank you Dr. Judy! Why not use Ubiquinol (active form of CoQ10) instead? Also, does your dog (Stuart) use conventional medications as well (Vetmedin, Lasix, Sildenafil, etc) or is he only on supplements? Thanks 🙏

@@teeniequeenie8369 which brand do you use? I give Dr. Mercola liquid ubiquinol (but it when it’s on sale 😉). Before that, I gave NOW ubiquinol 100mg gel capsules.

Hey, did you find any appropriate dosage with that my dog has DCM and is 8.5 kgs, how much taurine should I give?
@janetludvik9889
@janetludvik9889 8 ай бұрын
@paraa707 I found a dosage for my dog on dr. Judy Morgan. I did the math and for him he gets 1/4 teaspoon twice per day. I reversed his dcm from a 6.5 to a 3 so I know it can be done. My aussie is approx 24kg. So maybe half that amount for you. Taurine is pretty dose friendly a little more or less won't hurt.

This really helps, thank you! Also, It's really great to know of his recovery with taurine. May I know are there any other supplements and diet changes that you incorporated? My dog is currently on torsemide(2.5 mg x1)(also known as lasix) and spironolactone(25 mgx1). Hawthorn berry extract 300 mg and Coq10 150mg(once a day)
@janetludvik9889
@janetludvik9889 8 ай бұрын
@paraa707 I give him the taurine but also coq10 800mg because it's by weight according to dr. Morgan. I use dandelion leaf powder instead of lasix. Research that I did shows it's equal to lasix in what it does as a diuretic and it doesn't deplete potassium. I was just at the vet and he said the heart was great no changes . I give him vetmedin 2 times per day and I feed raw.

You are an amazing person. I met you 15 or so years ago at a pet expo and thought your ideas of cooking for dogs were WILD. Fast forward a decade or so, I have regained my own health with a less processed diet, and I’m now a home cook for my 10 year old girl. ❤❤❤ your basic pup loaf has already helped her lung crackle symptoms (suspected DCM)

Dr. Judy, you said a number of times in this video that supplementing Taurine, etc. may not prevent heart disease. Obviously, there are various types of heart disease but the lack of Taurine (and the amino acid precursors of Taurine) in commercial dog food is thought to be the cause of DCM in some cases recently (in dog breeds prone to and not historically prone to DCM). So, certainly, it is not a good idea for any breed of dog to be fed a diet low in raw (or lightly cooked) meat. Deficient kibbles are what most people feed. Dog breeds prone to heart disease may be due to an inability in the biochemical pathways to make Taurine, for example. In this case, an appropriate carnivore diet would be expected to prevent disease or at least buy the dog time before developing clinical signs.

I am 100% with you on the diet, joint problem connection. Not the case for everyone's particular problem but for many. I discovered 15 years ago that nightshade plants make my knees ache. I eliminated all (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers mainly) and knee pain gone in a couple of days for good. I started to recently have some of the same GI problems I had with nightshade and started getting a twinge in my knees so decided that I may have developed other sensitivities. Sure enough, when I don't eat any wheat, I feel great and the second I do my sinuses get inflamed from the heightened, circulating inflammatory cytokines and my body gets more achy. I highly recommend that you read The Plant Paradox by Dr. Steven Gundry, MD. The paradox he discusses in the book is that it is a myth that all plants are good for us and the more plant fiber the better. Turns out that many plants make defensive proteins called lectins. Avoiding plants with the highest lectin levels makes the GI tract and thus the whole body less inflamed. Wheat gluten is particularly irritating.

Fantastic video... I have two Malteses that are 9 (3 lbs) and 16 (4 lbs). My oldest has a heart murmur. They both have several teeth missing. Would the treats you shared be too difficult for them to chew due their loss of teeth?

I have a 1 year old Shih Tzu and she has a grade 2 heart murmur. She is asymptomatic and a lively little puppy. I questioned the first vet visit at 12 weeks because it looked like the vet was trying to hear something, and the second visit with a different vet read her history and said she had a grade 2 murmer. None of her other 6 litter mates have it. I have 5 other Shih Tzu's affordability is an issue. Should I start her on anything at this point?

My chi had dental disease and I know with ppl dental disease can lead to heart issues and yet the other day my vet said that my dogs dental disease didn’t have anything to do with his heart murmur….COMPLETE BS,..I’m not a vet and even I know that! I’m having a hard time with the amino acids thing cuz he also has cysteinuria (a rare genetic condition where he gets cysteine bladder kidney stones) he can’t break down the amino acid cysteine and it forms stones and giving him things like taurine could actually make cysteine stones worse I was told…don’t know if this is true???
