This compilation reel of film consists of a series of outtakes from WWII newsreels produced by UFA. Some of these are in German, but some may be in Spanish, and apparently shown to sympathetic audiences in Franco's Spain during the war years.
The film begins with images of Hermann Göring giving a speech at the Berlin Schöneberg, Sportpalast. This is most likely the October 4, 1942, Thanksgiving Day, speech known as the "Thanksgiving Speech" at the Sportpalast in Berlin-Schöneberg. In the speech he assured to secure food for the "German people" in the approaching winter. Others visible in the footage likely include Agriculture Minister Herbert Backe, and Joseph Goebbels. Göring awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the War to farmer leader Ernst Ritter (black suit) and the farmer leader Fritz Leffler at the event. Starting at (:59), Hitler is shown with King Boris III of Bulgaria. Boris III was the only reigning monarch with whom Hitler met with as often both before and during the war. The ruler was one of the few to whom he confided in advance the most momentous secret of his life-that he was going to invade the Soviet Union. Shortly after returning to Sofia from a meeting with Hitler, Boris died of apparent heart failure on 28 August 1943. At 1:46, Marshal Ion Antonescu is seen placing a wreath at the German war memorial in Berlin. Antonescu was ruler of Romania from 1940-44. Following the defeat of German forces at Stalingrad, Hitler suspected that some of the countries allied with Germany intended to negotiate a separate peace. In this German newsreel footage, Antonescu meets with Hitler in Berchtesgaden, Germany, primarily to reassure Hitler that Romania remained committed to the German war effort. In the year following this meeting, King Michael of Romania arrested Antonescu and signed an armistice with the Soviet Union in August 1944. At 2:10, Hitler meets with Antonescu at the Führerbau ("the Führer's building") in Maxvorstadt, Munich. At 2:48, Romanian Prime Minister Ion Antonescu and a German general or field marshal award an Iron Cross to a member of the army, location unknown but it's in a war-torn landscape filled with debris. At 3:33 Antonescu departs in a Junkers tri-motor with rear gunner visible in the tail turret. At 3:42, Antonescu and Adolf Hitler, possibly at the Wolfsschanze. At 4:10, Hitler is shown greeting Il Duce, Mussolini at the Brenner train station in the Alps. During World War II, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini met on the Italian side of the Brenner Pass to celebrate their Pact of Steel on 18 March 1940. At 5:10, June 9, 1940, Hitler meets with Dr. Ante Pavelić, leader of the Independent State of Croatia, upon his arrival at the Berghof in Bavaria, Germany, for a state visit. Hermann Goring is also shown, as well as Joachim von Ribbentrop. Interesting interior shots of the Berghof are seen. At 6:02, Croatian national leader Ante Pavelic hands over a Prussian flag from the Seven Years War to Adolf Hitler as a present. At 6:30, Pavelic is seen departing. At 7:30, a massive rally in Luxembourg is shown with Hitler Youth style Luxembourg young pioneers shown at 7:46. Starting in late 1942, there was forced conscription of Luxembourgers into the Wehrmacht. At 7:50, Baldur von Schirach, leader of the Hitler Youth (1933-1945), and Reich Governor and Nazi party Gauleiter (district leader) in Vienna, Austria (1940-1945) is seen at the event. At (8:44) the head of the SA Viktor Lutze speaks to a large crowd at Strasbourg, France on May 25, 1941. At (9:16), footage of a bomb shattered building after Allied bombs fell in a Paris neighborhood in Occupied France. The narrator states that the local paper ironically called the bombing "...the only gift from England to France during the war..." At (9:54) the dead are mourned at the Place de Concord in Paris. At (10:19), a representative of Marshall Petain expresses his condolences. At (10:30), Hitler is seen at the Zeughaus with Himmler, Field Marshall Erhard Milch and Field Marshall Wilhelm Keitel at Heldengedenktag ("Day of Commemoration of Heroes"). Hitler delivers a speech about the war, noting that Germany must presevere to achieve a lasting peace. At 12:14 the commander of Berlin / Stadtkommandant Paul von Hase greets the Furher at the Zeughaus in 1944. A wreath is laid for Heldengedenktag at (12:44). At (13:41) Hitler is shown meeting with wounded soldiers. At (16:00) troops parade past the Zeughaus. At (16:30) Generalfeldmarschall Gerd von Rundstedt arrives at the Wolf's Lair by train to visit Hitler. At (16:50) a Dornier Do-17 bomber delivers the Afrika Korp's Field Marshall Erwin Rommel to the Wolf's Lair. At (17:42) Rommel greets Hitler while the narrator announces that he has been awarded the Oak Leaves with Swords for the Knight's Cross by Hitler.
