I really didn’t like how Tammy responded to this. Tammy is an adult, so she’s kind of got that attitude of I’ve been there done that. She needs to understand that her experiences are her own experiences and Charlie’s experiences are Charlie’s experiences. What worked for her back in the day may not work for Charlie. Don’t be so dismissive of her feelings simply because you’re older and have enough experience under your belt to know already that in the future none of this petty teenage drama will matter anyway. Charlie is walking through this experience now herself, so of course it’s going to affect her strongly because this is her first time dealing with these things you have already dealt with. Instead of being dismissive try letting your daughter know that “hey I know right now this hurts. I know right now this is really upsetting and frustrating. All of those feelings are justified. I may not understand exactly what you’re experiencing/feeling right now, because your experiences are your own. However, I do know what it’s like to feel heart broken and let down by someone you really care about, because I been there. I’m telling you now things will get better. This storm won’t last always and you will get through this. Once this blows over you’ll gain new lessons to keep you from making the same mistakes and allowing the same things to bring you down. You will come out of this stronger. It’s ok to cry. Take whatever time you need to just let out all your frustration and hurt. Then when you feel like you’ve calmed down enough, then let’s go back out there and try to take our mind off this”
