You want tougher testing for PIP entitlement, and yet the current testing process is one of the most degrading, horrific, and stressful processes. My wife was in tears after being totally embarrassed by the questions asked and her having to explain and demonstrate the most private things she has to do as a disabled woman. Her medical record show that she needs a double hip replacement, a knee replacement, and 3 vertibrea fusing. She has to take morphine to get through the day. It should be clear from her records that she passes the criteria for pip without humiliating her. Im discusted with this government. Why dont you fix the nhs then maybe you would see less people claming pip while the wait for treatment. Typical tories attack the disabled instead of fixing the real problem

@Gurovski Gordon Brown closed down my Remploy factory in 2008 and they started Welfare Reform 2009.The Tories just ran with the ball in 2010 and closed the other Remploy factories and double down on Welfare Reform. The original plan for (UC)Universal Credit would have been decent support under Lain Duncan Smiths plan ,but George Osborne cut £4billion out of Universal Credit and killed off any chance the scheme had for really supporting people. Lain Duncan Smith resigned his post at the DWP in protest.

So Torys have made mistakes. Atleast they own them. Atleast they don’t run the nhs management and councils into the ground by overspending. Then blame the funding. Why do you let labour off from 20years+ of sh it? And its only getting worse. Funding and legislation are not the issue, they are to blame for immigration as its a home office issue but they do not control the judges that make the decision. So tell me. Unemployment benefit equates to just 1% of welfare spending. Disability benefits around 17%. Maybe stop the ridiculous benefits and perks for MPs. Maybe get rid of local government councillors. Lots of ways to save money, without continuously targeting the poor and the needy. But still, it's worked for government since the Victorian era, so why change tactics now

The social contract is broken and it was broken by the government. Why would anybody ever want to work when work no longer pays and vast swathes of working people have to claim benefits in order to barely survive? People live paycheck to paycheck. Nobody can save any more. The cost of living is beyond ludicrous and the chances for the younger generation to own their own homes shrinks further every day. Nobody wants to have children or start a family because the financial burden of doing so is just too great to bear. The middle-class is all but gone and the divide between the rich and the working class is widening. People work only to line the pockets of their corporate masters and there's little to no reward for themselves. I personally don't blame anyone who wants no part in that. The younger generation are not stupid. They can see there is no point. I see their unwillingness to participate as a type of protest. And now the tories are coming for the disabled and most vulnerable section of society. SHAME. Any country can and should be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable and Great Britain....well it isn't so great any longer.

@sunny96789 Yeah but spending 75 billion on two proxy wars and billions on immigration is completely fine, but you draw the line at welfare? How much is Sunak paying you to ride his meat replying to every comment? How about they fix the NHS, the horrendous wages, horrible employers and actually support the people who can work, get into work instead of sinking them into an even bigger hole by just cutting benefits completely. When I was on benefits the job center did absolutely F all to support me getting a job and actively punished me for trying. Try being in the system for once and you'll realize how difficult it is to live off nothing. I had to go to the food bank just to eat, even on benefits because of how little it is.

Bring wages into line with living expenses. Living. And not merely scratching out an existence as human resources. Disposable incomes, holidays, life enjoyment etc. Bear in mind that those on benefits sell their valuable time. You can be poor and on benefits and you save 40 hours per week. Or you can be poor and lose 40 hours. And most people in work struggle to live because prices are too high in relation to wages.

People with real life experience. But instead we get greedy entitled people born to wealth. We are in this together. We care. So end poverty. It can be done by the end of the year if they wanted to.

Ive lost funding for taxis because hes not full time 😂 . Im paying 400 a month to send him for 2 hours school a week. The fight for any help with my child , the fact I cant work has now made me physically and mentally ill. He has severe sleep issues and no school means I cant sleep to catch up even at work i had a few days off to sleep and relax. This wasnt my fault all of its out of my control. And I want a taxi to get him there but because he is part time (not our choice) . Theres no funding. Thanks to you rishi being obsessed with attendance 😂. Yes I want to work my life was great until my child was sick from stress and got left waiting 3 years for a school they bang on about working the lack of education being provided to my child when the law is they deserve education is laughable. No struggling mum forced out of work should have to not eat to transport her child to school 400 on taxis a month is utterly a desgrace in my situation. And i even have been threatened that if I refuse to pay for it that I am not meeting his needs every child at a full time sen school automatically gains one. If we stop spending millions of pound each week on illegal migrants and instead put that money into our healthcare system, education, AEB (training as well as online courses), and creating more jobs (as there's more people out of work then there are actual jobs). Then I'm sure we'll start seeing better results not only in peoples health but also within our work places and benefits system. Idk just a thought.

Rishi, I agree that since COVID people have become more accustom to doing less, I think it made people unmotivated in some sense as they got paid to do not a lot. I think some of the ideas here are good, and I agree with you that work in the right profession can seriously improve someone's wellbeing, especially when the hunger to do more and get a better job is the goal. I think there needs to be more done to make work pay, we need to give the people at the bottom almost no income tax so work pays for them, we also need the top 1% to keep paying the 30% of all tax income, so I'm not sure how this Nom-Dom abolishment will effect that.... I think something that gets forgotten is free and healthy ways of transportation, during my time in France I was able to ride my bike every day on a cycle path, a free and clean way for me to get to where I was going along with the added benefit of doing exercise there and back. (Less obesity and good for mental health as a result) In the UK riding a bike is not desirable as you generally have a frustrated driver up your ass looking to get around you, I have also been frustrated as a driver in this situation so I understand it from both sides. Other than the main large cities there are almost no cycle paths, if we converted some paths or added markings to some roads I think this would benefit millions of people, having the option to bike to the pub or see family or friends would not have to be done via a car = Less congestion. As someone who spend some time in France and other European countries like Germany and The Netherlands it is very clear to see the UK is seriously lacking in this department, I would imagine it also contributes to the lower obesity rates in European countries with this infrastructure. Measures like this may also reduce the welfare list too = Cheaper to get to work + Unfit become fitter = Less strain on NHS and Welfare budget.

Enjoy riding your bike until you have healthy knees .For me is hard to get to bed in evening and takes more harder with pain and stiff joints to get out of bed in the mornings. It takes with tears to walk to wc .And to do a care of my disabled husband all 24 hours. When you are young you never think that older age is not your friend anymore. And I am only 54 .

From the government ONS: "The estimated number of vacancies in January to March 2024 was 916,000, a decrease of 13,000 or 1.4% from October to December 2023. Vacancy numbers fell on the quarter for the 21st consecutive period in January to March 2024, despite vacancies falling in only 8 of the 18 industry sectors. Total estimated vacancies were down by 204,000 in January to March 2024 from the level of a year previously, although they remained 120,000 above their pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) January to March 2020 levels. The number of unemployed people per vacancy was 1.6 in December 2023 to February 2024, up from 1.4 the previous quarter (September to November 2023), with vacancies falling and unemployment increasing."

I'm sorry Rishi but all of your policies are completely tone deaf to the majority of us. This one in particular is very poorly thought out because you are trying to legislate away an issue that is emerging from poor social wellbeing in this country, not laziness. As a neuroscientist I find your understanding of mental health worrying, I would equate this to making a man with a broken leg run while he's still in a cast to make it heal faster
