Lisa, this is the most overly complicated way I've seen of casting an hexagram and if this had been my introduction to the I Ching I would have never picked it up just out of laziness (for reference I started doing it, maybe around 2006-7, when I was 13 or 14, can't remember. I also barely do it anymore) The way I learned: 2 or 3 heads = yang line 2 or 3 tails =yin line if there's 3 of the same then it's whichever line might correspond but that IS a "changing" or "mutable" line and it's just marked as such on the hexagram and after doing the first reading it's changed and read again so instead of casting the hexagram and then recasting just to check if any line is mutable the hexagram is just casted once But you've been doing it for longer than I and it has worked so why change it I blame the booklet not you sorry for the confrontational tone

I agree!!! This seems SO much easier - I kept getting mixed up but this feels way more intuitive to me. I like the idea that it becomes a changing line if you cast 3 the first time and can just mark the line as such - thank you!!! I'm going to pin this post so others can find it easier in case it's helpful to them, too! :) Thank you!

I absolutely agree, that is how I've always done it (and will continue to even with this deck) I found the booklets method very confusing and over-complicated.

36 Darkening the light and 37 Family. That was so apt for me today. My little cat, Ragnar, sadly passed away this morning... we found him hit by a car and left by the road. I feel devastated but I know that his spirit is with us. We burried him under a tree near his favourite spot and when we went back 10 hours later to make sure that his spot was alright and to say a little prayer...his grave was sprinkled with little white feathers! I think this is his way of letting me know he is happy with our decision to take his little body there..and that he is now a little angel! RIP Ragnar...I love you now and forever!xx Thanks for sharing Lisa! I have this deck and it is beautiful! xx

I received my deck today and it is gorgeous and just as amazing as you say! The cards are matt and feel lovely, the manual is still black and white but has amazing content :) Ive only had this deck for 4 hours now, but its already my absolute favourite (and thats saying something since I own over 450 decks!) I cannot tell you why, but I am so drawn to this deck… I am excited to learn more and delve deeper into everything it has to offer :) thank you for this lovely run through :)

This oracle looks amazing! I have been using the I Ching for years and actually use a free iphone I Ching app for getting the hexagrams & changing lines, which is so much easier for me. I can then use these Cards/GB for the messages -Awesome! Thanks for sharing, blessings...

I'm just embarking on discovering the I Ching and my Tao Oracle deck is on its way, but after watching your review I decided to do a cast with coins and then look up meanings on the Divination Foundation website. They also referenced the change lines in the initial cast rather than doing a second hexagram as another commenter mentioned and I think it makes it much easier (as a newbie who's learning for the first time). I got 61 - Centering in Truth and 29 - Dangerous Depths. Astonishing how powerful these cards are and how integral the messages can be with one another. Thank you for your review of this deck, I am so excited to receive mine and already have a gentle understanding of how this in-depth oracle operates!

I bought this Oracle in the last few years. I believe it is exactly the same. The book is still black-and-white pictures and the card stock looks to be exactly the same - buttery, matt, wonderful shuffle. This is a very deep deck and I have not actually come across most of the cards in my readings because I spend so much time with each one. I do the changes differently. I am anxious to try your method. My understanding of the changes was to draw a card for the current energy. I read that and use that in my thinking in the next several days with whatever issue I’m working on. Then I do the changes to see what I am ready to move onto next. If I stay with the card I am working on, I’ll take that to mean I need more work there and I’m not ready to move on. That’s why I haven’t used very many of the cards! I am a very slow learner. I would recommend this deck without hesitation.

I think the way you're doing the changes - working with the current energy and then seeing what's next - that makes a lot of sense to me!

I read the I Ching yarrow stalks, but I am so intrigued my card decks too. It's definitely faster than counting the stalks but there is something meditative about it.

Thanks so much for this deep dive into the Tao Oracle and the I-Ching and what beautiful cards they are! I totally agree with you about the sense of completeness the I-Ching gives as a system, and it will always be in the top 5 (or top "1" in some grab & run type emergency)

I don't cast coins but I do take into account the reference to the elements. It's one of my favorite decks. Maybe use it a little less since I got the Lantern Oracle. They seem to fill the same spot for me.

I love this deck so much. Mine is from 2002 and it has a different card back and book cover, but everything else -- including the card stock -- is the same. I tend to use the cards to display my "hexagram of the day/week/month". I use a few different i ching books when I'm interpreting my hexagrams, but this book is almost always amongst them. It provides such supportive and elevated meanings. The entire set is lovely, an I agree, underrated.

Interesting way to do the changing lines, I’ve never noticed that in the book. i have been doing it the traditional way in which each “3 of a kind” IS the changing line, then change each “changing” line or either broken or unbroken to create the new trigram. Benebell Wen has a Iching course and her own book of translations that you can make on the LULU print in demand site. I once did a reading on how our group meeting would go that night, and later each person threw a coin and it land up to be the exact trigram! (Was an metaphysical type group)
@hectorrobertocontrerasmiranda
@hectorrobertocontrerasmiranda 2 жыл бұрын
right? the way this book makes you get the changing lines is so odd, why put an extra step when it can be done from the beginning?
@Bunnykisses1000
@Bunnykisses1000 2 жыл бұрын
@@hectorrobertocontrerasmiranda yes, i agree. In the book of changes, you read the changing lines, THEN look at the new trigram for further information (you know this), ….but for others reading the comments. 👍🏻
@sacredsortilege
@sacredsortilege 2 жыл бұрын
I do the same. I think the book does the changing lines the way it does because it has you start with a card and then use the coins to determine the changing lines. I think it would be easy to just pick a second card to determine the changing lines, but I do love that the book encourages people to use coins as it is definitely a path into more traditional i ching methods.
