Supra W55 W57 W58 shifter to gearbox solid bush repair kit - CUBE Speed

Just installed this in my MK3 Supra. My old bushing looked good but I said f*ck it and threw in the Cube solid bushing. Happy i did, tighter feeling lever grouping and more satisfying to shift from gear to gear. Love from USA Thanks man!

Installed in my car today with gearbox in the car. It's very doable. With rear on ramps and front on stands, I dropped my transmission as much as it would allow, undid the center driveshaft bearing mount and leavered the driveshaft down a little more, wedging a block between the shaft and body to pull the trans down a little further. Doing this I was able to get to the most forward bolts using extensions and an elbow socket. The most stressful part was not losing the little washers. Otherwise it was a reasonably easy kit to install. Just make friends with someone who has small hands to get to the two troublesome bolts!

So... how do you remove the solid bushings if it somehow wore out?

Hi, The plastic bushing on the end of the shifter lever, is the "sacraficial part" so provided this plastic bush is replaced when worn, the solid bush should last an incredibly long time. Maybe 500,000klm +. If you did ever need to replace the solid bush you would need to remove the trans and disassemble to get to this bushing and then press it out to replace it.

I have been thinking about an alternative solution that is easier to work on, If we are having difficulty removing the housing and cutting the OEM metal/rubber bush, a larger than OEM diameter bush under the shifter lever will probably make a nice improvement as well?

You should take the extension housing off and show how to put that back together

We might do that in the future....good idea! But one of the great features with our bushing kit is that you don't have to take the extension housing off to replace this bush which is so often worn out in these transmissions which are now a few decades old.

I have a 93 Toyota pickup with a w55 and I can't get it into 5th, I installed cube's short shifter and I'm wanting to know if mine has a rubber bushing insert

Hi Kevin, The Pickup W55 has a rubber insert like the trans in this video. It is worthwhile checking the condition of this bush as it can effect shifter engagement and can wear the bush on the bottom of your shifter very quickly if not in good condition. This doesn't work on the MK4 W58 (SC300, Supra) and the early soarer R154 as Toyota changed the diameter of the shift retainer. There is no rubber in them.

Correct, this bush kit is only for W55, W57 and W58. The R154 does not use the rubber insulated bush so this bush is not needed if you have any R154. It does fit most early SC300's and Mk4 Supra's with a W58 that have a direct mount style shifter the later Mk4's and SC300's went to the remote/tripod mount shifter and no longer used the rubber insulated bush.

These bushes will suit the W55 used the Toyota Pickup

So all i have to do is take off my cross member and itll drop the trans enough so i can reach the bolts ?

Yes, just dropping the trans down by about 25mm or so will generally givesenough clearance between the trans tunnel and the trans, to be able to do the install from inside the car.

This is incredibly difficult on a mk3 supra with the gearbox still in the car, when removing the 6 bolts for the housing there are 2 very far forward underneath the head unit, even with the trans dropped as low as possible without removing it I didn't have enough room and ended up drilling 2x 10mm holes inside the car as you would never see them. I put a 1/4" drive extension through the holes and a 12mm socket on the bolt and managed to get the bolts off like that but I will now have to patch up the holes, definately easier than removing the trans tho. Yes that's correct. You don't need to remove the gearbox to install our bush kit. Your car will need to be on ramps or axle stands to be able to remove the shifter housing and then the rest of the job can be done from inside the car.

I have a question regarding my shifter yoke. An individual said i can cut and weld the shifter yoke and flip it around in order for it to fit another w58 housing. This w58 came out of a celica. Is this possible or is there a better way to go about this?

Hi, If possible, it's best to buy the correct offset lever to suit the shifter housing you want to use. There is a fair amount of load on the offset lever and the weld could be a failure point

Hi, We used budget version of a Dremel tool and the bit we used is what is called a cylindrical carbide burr. Most hardware or tool shops should know what you mean if you ask for one of these. Hope it all goes well ! :-)

We have found that this bush doesn't suit the SC300. Toyota/Lexus used a slightly different sized bush for the SC300 and we don't make this part as yet.

Hello, Good news for you and others W50 owners! The W50 does not use the rubber insert bush in the offset lever like the W55/W58/W58 shown in this video.. With the W50 Toyota did not use a bush in this location at all.
