If you have to work, whilst being denied the right to vote. Does this not equate to “no taxation without representation” which is gonna be tricky for Americans as it’s the basis of their formation. I know Pearl is British, but I assume she’s preaching to all women in western countries. Has she thought through any of these ideas she comes up with? 🤣
@shanenanigans27
@shanenanigans27 Жыл бұрын
No, she actually still thinks you shoudn't have that right because she thinks women should only be able to vote when they take up the exact same jobs as men equally. She seems to interpret equality as equality of outcome (where everyone is the same), and not as equality of opportunity, where everyone has an equal option to choose these jobs. It's pretty vapid because I don't think we will ever reach 100% equality of men and women in every single job ever, at least not for a while.
@Sun-gv8yh
@Sun-gv8yh Жыл бұрын
Right? that logic doesn't make sense it all because in her case, that would be that the men who DON'T work those difficult, physical labour jobs shouldn't be granted the right to vote then, right? And also, there are a lot of other difficult jobs that have more than 50% of female workers. that doesn't make it equal now, does it? These kind of people piss me off smh

Ok, but do all men who are not in the military or work on an oil rig also have to give up their vote? If that is not the case, then we have equality. Also what makes oil rig workers so much more improper to society than nurses, teachers, doctors, and kindergarten teachers? Why is raising the next generation not the thing that is validated so highly it gives you a right to vote? I mean if men also wanted to vote they should give birth and raise children. Without that there is no society, so no vote for people who are not mothers. /s If you did not notice how stupid and absurd her arguments are, or becomes obvious once you flip genders. Honestly, society needs people in all kinds of jobs. As long as you are part of a society, you should be able to vote. Simple as that!

Also if we're talking about feminists not wanting to do jobs that are considered for men: there are women in these fields, but if you read about the general experience, in male dominated jobs women are doubtet and not taken seriously because of their gender They could have the same or even better education on the topic, but some stuff is so deeply rooted in our brain that we assume that a woman being, for example, a mechanic or a plumber won't do as good of a job as a man So even if women want to apply for these jobs, it's sometimes impossible because of the idea that "they won't do it as well as a man would"

The scary thing is that that type of person isn’t even all that uncommon. I have heard some nasty things from my own (extremely conservative) family members. Once we had been watching a border security show when one of the people being investigated was explained how he had been on a hunting trip with his son and some friends. He had only brought a few pieces of the deer they shot back home with them, and when they asked why he explained how his wife was vegan(? Or maybe vegetarian? It was a few years ago so I can’t remember completely) and so he only brought a little bit of it home. I didn’t pay it any mind, but for some reason my older brothers took great offense to it. Immediately one of them said how if they got a girlfriend who didn’t eat meat then they would make her eat meat. I’m not sure what they thought such a feat would entail but just hearing them talk about it was nasty. Like, you can’t respect something so simple as a diet choice? What, does it offend you?

That, and being forced to eat something your body and brain rejects can be traumatizing. For example, my brain perceives lots of food I don't like as poison so it's hard for me to try eating it without gagging or throwing up. What motivates them to be this blatant of a hypocrite? My hypothesis is that by shitting on women as a woman herself, it doesn't just validates the beliefs of misogynistic men; it implies that she is an exception to these "rules" about women's "nature" or "hardwiredness".

To make matters worse the hymen, which im assuming is the peice of skin you are referring to, has absolutely nothing to do with virginity. There is not any possible physical way to tell if a vagina has been penetrated before (unless someone has given birth which can sometimes cause permanent change). Plenty of women are born without a hymen, it can break during any physical activity like riding a bike or gymnastics (many people have their hymen break as little kids for this reason), and its even possible to be penetrated and have your hymen be completely intact, as it can just be pushed to the side. Cant remember where and to lazy to look for source but I read a thing in regards to either a prostitute or p*rnstar who had an intact hymen. There is no way to physically tell if someone is a virgin unless they are pregnant or have a child. On her point about "women are too indecisive, I'm glad my husband makes all the decisions", I'm reminded of this quote from Catherine Steiner-Adair of the Harvard Eating Disorders Center: “If you ask an eight-year-old girl what she wants on her pizza, chances are she will tell you. ‘I’ll have extra cheese and peppers.’ By the time that same girl reaches eleven or twelve, the answer becomes, ‘I don’t know.’ And when you ask her at thirteen, what do you get? -- ‘What would YOU like on the pizza? There is a word for that transition from “Extra cheese and peppers” through “I don’t know” to “What would you like?” The term is trauma." Not to associate womanhood inseparably with trauma, as I know that is damaging in and of itself, but it's still worth pointing out just how severely all children are affected by childhood socialization and how it plays right into stereotypes.

No, this is a hot take but as someone who was socialized as female in a conservative household, it's chock full of trauma. I would love to live in a world where all children, including AFABs and regardless of race/ethnicity, are socialized without trauma.

Sometimes being a woman is very traumatic. Even when I was only around 14 years old I used to think, "I need to lose my virginity soon to someone really nice because I'll probably be assaulted at least once in my life. I don't want to have to deal with the trauma of having my first time without my consent." Even now I'm still deathly afraid of that. And I know a lot of women around me are too. Constantly being afraid of the men around you and being alone is really tiring.

I'm a cis-woman that has worked in male dominated industries for the past decade. The boys clubs don't like letting girls into their cliques. I was hazed harder than the others who came in at the same time. I wasn't invited to go to any of the out of work social events. I was frozen out of most conversations. They were trying to get me to quit or fired. They convinced me to take responsibility for other people's mistakes so they wouldn't get in trouble or fired, and then those same people would go right back to hazing me. If men want women to do the hard jobs, then they need to let us in and quit trying to force us out every time we try. Oh, and I do the cooking in my family and own about 30 cookbooks, take care of the grocery shopping, and do the dishes. I was doing the car maintenance including topping off fluids, oil changes, brake pads and rotor changes, tune ups, ect. until we bought vehicles that require specialized tools to do anything. My husband does the cleaning, repairs around the house, lawn chores, and trash, as well as working in customer service jobs and working on getting IT certificates.

I have a kinda morbid theory concerning when people who are a part of a marginalized group dismiss and deny the fact of power imbalances and hierarchy, that being: people who are members of a marginalized group may justify lies, stereotypes, and other forms of upholding hierarchy, for the fear of implications were they to acknowledge the unfairness, injustice, and harm in reality. were they to acknowledge the injustice, they might have to fight, or experience other forms of violence and indignity. if they uphold hierarchy/patriarchy/white supremacy/homophobia/etc., then cat calling loses its bite, hearing slurs loses its bite, being told what to do feels justified, etc. It then appears that nothing needs to change, all that needs to change is the people raising questions should be silenced to keep the peace as they see it. it's honestly really sad, and idk what to do about it lol.

The second woman is honestly disgraceful. Refusing to hang out or be associated with people who you deem less attractive one of the lowest traits a person could possess. How do you think that their value is less than yours because you find yourself beautiful and not them. Looks fade in time, character doesn’t. In her own statement, she will have nothing to provide after she ages and starts to loose what she claims her “beauty”. Once she has children, she won’t be a virgin, she has no skill sets, she doesn’t humble herself towards other people.
