Today we’re hitching a ride on the Comet, from Supro Amps. The 1610RT Comet is a scorching-hot 1x10 combo amp with onboard tremolo and reverb. The power amp section of the Comet consists of a single 6L6 tube with a switchable plate voltage that’s adjustable to six or 14 watts, controlling the point at which the amp breaks up and enters the red zone. The 6 -att setting is ideal for practice situations, giving more breakup at lower volumes, while the 14-watt setting is a more robust voicing with more headroom and power. The 12 o’clock position on the Volume knob is the tipping point, with everything before it offering up sparkling cleans and everything after it serving fistfuls of crunch. Much like most Class-A amps, the Comet’s power breakup tones are drenched in harmonics and tube compression, outperforming overdrive pedals with ease. The Comet includes an authentic tube-driven tremolo section, along with a real-deal reverb tank, with enhanced versions of each. Unlike Supro’s other amplifiers, the Comet wires its tremolo section before the reverb tank, allowing a wider range of both effects. This reversed configuration makes the Comet the king of any recording studio it lives in. And just like all the other Supro amps, the Comet is designed and assembled using high quality components in New York, USA.

Just got one and hell yea, it's awesome but don't be fooled, even at the 6w setting, it's loud af. You can't get the break up unless the master volume is really high (without a fuzz pedal) and that happens at a pretty high volume for home use. That said, wow, I'm so blown away by this amp.

How do you get to the tubes to change them? I looked at one of these recently and like the soundthe tube inaccessibility is a big concern to me. They are hidden high inside the amp and behind the chasis. It appears the tubes are hidden to protect them from getting hit and breaking the circuit board. I was getting ready to buy one but after seeing the way this thing is designed and built I am gonna pass. It is a shame because they sound awesome. Thanks for the review, just saved $1349.

Take the screws out of the front and pull the baffle out. Opens up the whole front, tubes are facing forward. Super easy.

@@Bairov the dual tone will get a dirty tone at a slightly lower volume. Coronado is a sweet amp but it is Loud ! May need attenuator. Or a drive pedal at lower volume. You can crank the dual tone without doing ear damage.

I know a friend that owns this amp, on his the reverb died aswell. Didn't know it was a common issue. I was thinking about buying one because it just sounds so good but i guess i reconsider

Did you contact Supro? I’ve found them to be pretty good about warranty repairs.
