If you haven't got a 15 tooth sprocket on the front, I recommend getting that as a single tooth smaller there makes a good difference. My gearing is supposed to be 15/38, but it came with 16/36 and it was also hard to ride around town. I purchased a 15 for the front to make it 15/36, which is nice. That's with PHM40 carbs and Conti exhausts.

Hello 👋😃 I have tried 15/33 and 15/38 so far. 38 felt good. This time it is 40. I like that it runs well in the city, but what happens on the highway? Of course, the speed limit in Japan is 120km at the fastest, but it's fun to feel the difference.

@@kazu900ss I think 40 will be fine on the highway as well given the speed limit. Here it's 100Km and I seldom get into top gear. Let me know how it goes when you've made the change.

@@Ducati900SS In 40 gear, 5It is 115km when it is 4000 rpm at speed. I can't say it out loud, but I can keep 150km on the highway when the flow is fast. At times like this, 40 feels short. However, the 40 is attractive because it can be used in a lively rev range in the city. With 40 gears, I can enjoy the heartbeat of a V-twin anywhere. Makes my Ducati as friendly as a Vespa! At least I like it now.

Just for anyone interested, I had a look through my documents and found the following in an original Ducati specifications guide: Italy 900SS - 16/36 (Europe or elsewhere) 900SS, Conti and PHM40 - 15/36 (Europe or elsewhere) 900SS, Silentium and PHF32 - 15/38 USA 900SS, Silentium and PHF32 - 15/38 But also, it says this: "In the 900SS motorcycle, we advise to fit, specially for highway use, a smaller sprocket than the standard assembled, allowing the same speed at lower rpm. The following rear sprockets: Z=35,3,39,40,41,42,43,44 and 45 teeth are available on Customers' demand." That's officially up to 45 teeth at the rear, so 40 is only in the middle of that.

@@Ducati900SS I see, 40 teeth was an item that I could choose with confidence. thank you for teaching me. It's great to be able to enjoy the characteristics of the L twin even in city riding. By the way, in my materials, the 1982 900SS and MHR are shipped with 15/33. I think that this is a consideration of acceleration noise regulations rather than driving performance.

どうもどうも(^_^;) このホイールがけっこう重いのと、暑いのとでシャフト穴がなかなか決まらず、このあと子供に横から見てもらいました。 ちょい上?〇になってる?とか、暑いのに外に呼ばれて、うちの子供も大変です…

Για το προβλημα σας στις οβαλ τρυπες του γραναζιου τρυπησε κ περασε δαχτυλιδια ατσαλοσηδερο.Θα γινει ποιο ανθεκτικο απο το καινουργιο.το 15/38 ειναι το καλυτερο για νορμαλ μηχανακι.👋
