The only reason your top speed changed is due to what you yourself pointed out; the inefficiency of the old chain due to ingress of dirt/lack of oiling. The increased rolling resistance/drag will remqin constant hroughout throttle range if anything increasing, thus reducing top speed. Greater efficiency less rolling resistance = less drag = easier for motor to spin up & keep on spooling = more top speed

so the stock chain is good to go??? just clean it?

@@davideinstein7887 you gotta maintain it, so yes clean it and oil it
@nxdboi Жыл бұрын
@@davideinstein7887 Even properly maintained, o-ring chains are more rigid and resist rotation more than a non-o-ring chain. Non o-ring chains are much more high maintenance, though. They don't hold lube to the chain, which means it has to be oiled/waxed every few rides to stay in good shape. An x-ring chain is a good compromise. It is less resistive than an o-ring chain, but also hold lube due to the x-rings. X-ring chains are more expensive, however.

A "non O-ring" chain does require more maintenance that an "O-ring" version. But the added power to the rear wheel is why I raced with "non O-ring" chains.

i had the same experience , way quieter and reaches top speed faster, considering that you can get it for 20 bucks its prolly the best upgrade you can do to a surron.

Manufacturers of X-ring chains claim to have less resistance than o-ring chains and saving power while providing for less maintenance. X-ring chains remain quiet. Non ring chains will provide the least amount of friction resistance.

O ring chain just seems better tbh, less maintenance is my main thing, I want a belt but they're expensive as hell
@EdibleRebel Жыл бұрын
I know im a year late but belts are alright, but they can get damaged easier if you're riding offroad stuff. Belts are better for pavement imo
@dglongx2 жыл бұрын
That is normal resistance in an o-ring chain. Your new chain may be smoother but will require more maintenance

The THEORY is that the o-rings keep the factory grease in and dirt out. It's typical for an o-ring chain to be stiff when it's cold, but after getting it up to temp it loosens. So, what you're seeing and feeling with the bike cold isn't fully indicative of an o-ring chain's "inefficiency." Whereas any new non-o-ring chain will definitely give an instant boost, which you show. The question is what happens in real-world usage where dirt gets into a non-o-ring chain vs an o-ring one. Then the efficiency differences may be measurable the other way (with non-o-ring losing efficiency), but for those of us who just want basic reliability an o-ring chain will probably serve us best. In motorcycle usage what most street bikes will experience is that a non-o-ring chain will wear, and stretch, a lot quicker than an o-ring chain due to the loss of the factory grease and the intrusion of dirt. I've found in my various forays into skateboarding and inline skating and bicycling that there's lots of mumbo jumbo about bearing and chain efficiencies and the types of lubes used and how they're applied, and a lot of the science and real world numbers can show improvements WHEN VERY STRICT MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES ARE ADHERED TO. If you don't want to do intense cleaning and lubing every single session then, yeah, you're gonna go slower. Is the extra work worth the extra speed? You have to figure out for yourself how much effort you wanna put in. So, put a couple hundred miles on that chain and let us know how it works for you. It might be the hot ticket, or maybe it might not.

Check out my latest video, it shows this chain still performs better then the o-ring chain after a month of no maintenance

Quick question with Sur rons, when do you start noticing the power and top speed to dip? What percentage roughly?

Great question, I would say when my battery gets to about 70% I can tell it’s getting less exciting. As for top speed, I don’t really max it out that often so I can’t really comment on that confidently.

I got my surron used and the chain has so much slack that it sometimes touches the frame. So I’m thinking of just going straight to a sprocket and chain upgrade. The tension is max already so I hope the reason why it has slack is because of wear.

@zeekmx19702 жыл бұрын
@@JuicedJoyrides - I used 20 weight shock oil on my chain when I first got it which evaporated away too quickly. That's not as protective as marine grease. it's also going to attract dirt. That could be the right solution if you're in a salty coastal area with low dust and away from sand. The chain would require complete incasement to keep it free from debris.
