1. "وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ"
Translation: "Woe to every scorner and mocker."
Meaning: This verse serves as a warning about the consequences that await those who engage in slander, mockery, and backbiting. It emphasizes the gravity of such negative behaviors and the harm they cause to individuals and society.
2. "الَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُ"
Translation: "Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it."
Meaning: This verse highlights the behavior of individuals who accumulate wealth and obsessively count and hoard it. It warns against the love of material possessions and the distraction it can cause from spiritual growth and moral values.
3. "يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُ أَخْلَدَهُ"
Translation: "He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal."
Meaning: This verse addresses the false belief of some individuals who think that their wealth will grant them eternal life or protect them from adversity. It reminds them of the transient nature of worldly possessions and the inevitability of facing accountability in the Hereafter.
4. "كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنبَذَنَّ فِي الْحُطَمَةِ"
Translation: "No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher."
Meaning: This verse rejects the notion that wealth can shield individuals from consequences and affirms that those who indulge in sinful behavior, regardless of their wealth, will face punishment. The term "Crusher" metaphorically refers to Hellfire, symbolizing the severe punishment awaiting wrongdoers.
5. "وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحُطَمَةُ"
Translation: "And what can make you know what is the Crusher?"
Meaning: This verse emphasizes the incomprehensible severity of the punishment awaiting wrongdoers in Hellfire. It serves as a rhetorical question to provoke reflection on the unimaginable consequences of sinful actions.
6. "نَارُ اللَّهِ الْمُوقَدَةُ"
Translation: "It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled,"
Meaning: This verse describes Hellfire as a fire continuously fueled by the wrath of Allah, emphasizing its perpetual intensity and the severity of its punishment.
7. "الَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى الْأَفْئِدَةِ"
Translation: "Which mounts directed at the hearts."
Meaning: This verse portrays the terrifying nature of Hellfire, which will be directed towards the hearts of the inhabitants, symbolizing the anguish and torment they will endure.
8. "إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ"
Translation: "Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them"
Meaning: This verse underscores the certainty and inevitability of the punishment awaiting wrongdoers, as Hellfire will be closed down upon them, leaving no escape from its torment.
9. "فِي عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍ"
Translation: "In extended columns."
Meaning: This verse describes the pillars or columns of Hellfire, which will extend indefinitely, emphasizing the vastness and severity of its punishment.
