Winter conditions mean you need to be extra vigilant around rail crossings. Especially if you're a snowmobiler.
Think you can always hear and see a train coming?

Just My thought aswell. If someone aginst all odds would take the helmet of, when would they put it back on? Put it back on before crossing the railroad tracks? - by the time you got your helmet on there could come a train when you'r about to cross.... Put it back on after you have driven over the tracks? Is it a smart move to ride without a helmet? Where would you have the helmet when driving? If you slip of the road and hit a tree on the other side of the railroad tracks it's clearly better to have your helmet on... Stop look and listen, you can't do eny more. Cheers from Northern Sweden.

Trying to hear the train coming while you have a loud ass noisy 2 stroke 2 feet in front of you.. Umm really? If they really want to caution people about it, tell them to get up off their ass and stand up to look over 4 foot tall bushes blocking the view and an extra pointer (all that anyone can learn from this): dont crawl over the tracks so damn slow you might as well be a turtle crossing a highway.

This DIDN'T HAPPEN. The guy looked BOTH WAYS, then proceeded to get hit by a train within seconds? BS. I'm sure on a running snow machine with a helmet, along with the sound dampening from the snow, it can be hard to hear trains. But you WILL see them if you look. At 60mph, a vehicle will cover a little more than a football field distance. If you can't see that far in broad daylight, maybe you should sell the sled and take up knitting.

I cross every day on foot and there is zero chance I won't know where the trains are at, even before I stop and look both ways. People on noisy-ass motorcycles and snowmobiles are different. That being said, the train bell followed by the deafening horn can not be ignored. If your motor is louder than that, you're doing it wrong; buy a different one. People should be able to hear their surroundings for the same reason I'm required to use eyeglasses when operating a vehicle.

The track curves to the right, creating a blind spot. When the train first appears, it’s much closer to the camera than it looks, and it’s traveling very fast. It doesn’t help that the train appears to be white and blends in with the snow. All of this creates a situation that requires an unusual amount of caution.

I almost got hit by a train. Stopped at a marked crossing with moderately obstructed view left and right. Figured I would hear a train if it was coming. Wrong. Started to cross the tracks when a train came. My front bumper was about 1' from side of train. Scared years off my life. You cannot always hear a train coming. On a snowmobile, with helmet, and snow all around to muffle the noise, no way you would hear a train.
@leverettrailfan5414
@leverettrailfan5414 2 жыл бұрын
After noting all the "fake" comments, I went through frame-by-frame when the train comes into the scene... it's fuzzy around the edges of the train but it's a little unclear how well it follows the alignment of the track. But the real obvious indicator is the exact frame before the screen goes black, the locomotive pilot encroaches on the shadow of the snomobiler. If the train were actually there, then their shadow would appear on the pilot of the locomotive. But it doesn't- it is abruptly cut off. Also the locomotive looks slightly odd- a bit unnatural, and 'low poly'. Of course, an even more obvious indicator it's not 'real' is the fact that if the train really did collide with the snomobile, then the footage would never have survived- that camera would totally have been destroyed. And like has been pointed out, the video would probably not be allowed on KZbin if it were footage of a real accident. The audio of the train doesn't sound like it is part of the video either, unsurprisingly. OK for a PSA, but it's not entirely accurate. And it's probably not a great idea to ask people to remove their helmets, that's a lot of hassle, and they have to put them back on after. You certainly wouldn't want to do that unless you were at an unprotected crossing on a road/right of way with no traffic. Where I live in the states, all grade crossings I'm aware of have whistle posts- even the unprotected ones on private property. I guess Canada may have different policies? Seems like a bad idea to not blow the horn for grade crossings except in highly populated areas, but in those cases you should absolutely have protected crossings and probably reduced speed.

YT is filled with videos of motorcycles, automobiles, and bicycles getting absolutely destroyed in an accident and yet the rider/driver survives the ordeal. "And like has been pointed out, the video would probably not be allowed on KZbin if it were footage of a real accident." Ummm, you haven't seen much accident footage on YT, have you??? LOL. We were shooting a video of a train on opposite tracks (it was very beautiful with all that snow flying around) And then all over the sudden train appeared on tracks on our side. We were standing in 3-5 feet (1-2m) near tracks. We spotted and heard it when it was like 10-15m (30-45 feet) near us. Not near miss but still scary. I though I was very safe person.

There is a video of a couple walking along the track. There is another train on the next track and the view is from the train on the track the couple is walking in. The engineer has full breaks applied and is blasting his horn desperate to get the couple's attention. They never even looked. On a lighter side, I was exploring near some train tracks with a friend when he found a coke bottle about 2/3s full of a pail yellow liquid. He said it was what happens if Coke is left in the sun. I knew better and said, "Actually, it's what happens when you put Coke through a set of human kidneys." He got this confused look on his face so I explained more. You see train engineers are not allowed to leave their post, even if they have to take a leak. And drinking a bottle of Coke will produce the need to take a leak. Thankfully drinking a bottle of Coke also provides a handy, empty container you can pee into. Then he got this really horrified look on his face and threw the bottle away. It was his brother who told him about the "sun bleached Coke" thing, and his brother had even got him to try it. He said it tasted horrible, but having never tasted piss before, he failed to make the connection.

Lol yeah right. So if a helmet makes it hard to see and hear a train then how is a being in a vehicle any different, why are they not asking drivers to stop their car to get out and look before crossing?!?!.........it all is so dumb......depending on the distance of sight by the time you put your helmet back on or back in your car a train could be at the crossing as you cross. Im dumbfounded as to why this video was made the way it was, leaving yourself without a helmet, unprotected is more unsafe. If anything it should be to stop, open your shield which would allow you to hear better and remove the chance of glare obstructing your view.......i just cant see anyone getting hit by a train unless for some reason you wanted to. And if all of this would fail to keep you safe then you might just not come out of your house!

That's a very dangerous crossing - esp for one without any bells or gate. Taking off helmets aren't going to happen tho. And I'm honestly not sure that would have changed anything given the train's speed and that blind curve.

The only reason he did not see that train is because the train was painted completely white so it blended in with the snow perfectly.

That's not real its just an exaggerated example of what could happen if your not paying attention...I've been sledding for almost 40 years and I've crossed hundreds of train tracks without a problem yes when you come to a crossing look both ways like anything other intersection and then proceed...dummies

I can see why these safety campaign groups post these awareness videos because in reality there are many people every year that get hit by trains and traffic on rural roadways especially at night riding snowmobiles and ATVs but most of these scenarios are almost always avoidable

Question, why wouldn't you turn your body to be sure you can look and see in the distance? There's a train crossing that I have to go over on my way to work and back. It transports goods and there's a passenger train that travels on it as well. The trains that transport goods goes 45 tops, the passenger train goes much faster and is quieter.

If you really wanted to get the attention of snowmobilers this video should have shown a train going by or maybe the aftermath of a collision or better yet a video of a collision. In this age of video everything, I'm sure there are cameras mounted on locomotives that have captured collisions with snowmobiles. If none exist, then this public service announcement is in warranted.

My friend was driving his car I was a passenger. He went around a stopped truck and crossed the tracks no signal no noise. When he got to the middle of the track going normal speed. I just happened to look to the right. A train maybe less than 100 feet was coming fast. I smacked his right arm so he would look at a train now 50 feet thank God he didn't freeze and hit the gas. Train missed us by feet. After that never drove with him again.
