🎣 Welcome, fellow anglers! This is Brandon with Leland Fly Fishing, and we're thrilled to have you here today for an exciting fly tying session. Tonight, we're diving into the world of fly patterns with a unique twist as we tie the "Surefire M" by Barry or Clark.
Let's get right into this fly-tying adventure! We're grateful for your support, and we hope you'll enjoy every moment.
For this pattern, we'll be using the Moonlit Toata Premium Barbless Hooks, specifically the ML221 in size 18. Keep in mind, this versatile pattern can also be tied and fished in sizes 16 and 20. Our thread of choice is the Seer Fly Classic Waxed 18/0 in black, perfect for securing this tiny yet effective fly.
🐟 We'll start by tying in the tail or shuck, made with Simper Flies Simper Flash in Crystal Silver. This shimmering material adds a touch of attraction, and you can easily get multiple tails from a single strand. We'll secure it down, trim the excess, and create a sleek taper for that slender midge-like profile.
For the post, we're using Simper Fly's Poly Yarn in a cream color, split to keep it manageable for smaller sizes. It'll serve as the anchor for our hackle. Carefully secure the post, creating that distinct parachute post and apply a touch of super glue for extra stability.
Now, it's time for the magic-wrapping the hackle with the shiny side down. This technique ensures a clean, fish-friendly presentation.
🌿 To complete our Surefire M, we'll add S-Fly Kapoc Dubbing, a natural dubbing that's ultra-light and incredibly buoyant. Create a slender thorax and wrap the dubbing, keeping the profile delicate to mimic a real midge.
Finish off with a couple of wraps of hackle around the post, securing it with thread. A touch of super glue ensures longevity and durability.
✂️ Trim the post and your thread, and there you have it-a beautifully crafted Surefire M, ready to take on the waters.🐟🌄
