Just had an other wee walk around Dingle just now. What a beautiful town! You really caught the colours, great light, just beautiful. I'm watching as we are getting hammered with big summer storms, lots of hail and rain, and hot sticky days. I turn up the aircon and imagine I'm in Ireland. Cheers Greg!!

We could do with a bit of that heat here!

It brings back the memories when I spend a summer there learning Irish in the early nineties, great video Greg.

when I was 10 year old in 1962 my parents took our family to dingle for a holiday, I remember the farmers coming into the market with their donkey carts, nine years later I was working in the Green Isle Hotel on the Nass road just outside Dublin, there was a TV presentation to the best small holders in Ireland, I think it was 10 acres or less. As I was going around with a tray of sherry a very modest and humble farmer from just outside Dingle couldn't believe that the drink was free, I gave him two glasses and told him to lookout for me if he wanted more.

Free drink is always a shock when it happens!

Great memories of a trip to Dingle in the early 90s with my parents. We ended up staying at a wonderful B & B in Tralee.
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
Ah thé B&Bs, I used to love them.

My favorite town in the whole country. Been back there three times and still have many pubs to hit!

It’s surely a great place. Thanks for watching.

Harrington's for fish n chips and Fenton's for dinner, two incredible meals a good while back now probably 2005. Been back a few times.

You need to mention the wonderful folk entertainment at St James Church. All local artists and musicians. Eoin Duignan has seasonal concerts. Just wonderful and very reasonable pricing. Really shouldn’t miss it when in Dingle. Have dinner at a pub then walk to St James. A memorable night for sure.
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
That’s great to know. Thanks for sharing that.

I think you’ve just mentioned everything you need people to know. Hopefully some will see your plug and go along. Best of luck with it all.

Loved this one Greg!! I've been there once or twice, but memories are abit vague. How clean is this wee town! So much commerce! Beautiful colours. Your commentary was excellent. Love you style. Take care. Don't get caught up in too many pub's 😂😂😂

I went on a few visits to Dingle over a span of 20 years. One of my favorite Dingle water holes was a Main Street Pub, cafe & bookstore called "The Island Man" I downed pints and purchased several books about and by Peig Sayers. Dingle was my base camp for a visit to the Great Blasket in 1990. The Island Man is gone now but the Great Blasket still Dominates the coastline.
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
Wow, you’re quite the adventurer. I’m sure the island is incredible - never been!

Thanks for the walk through Dingle. I’m hoping to return to Ireland in 2025. We hope to go to Waterford, so a trip to Dingle may happen.
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
Well, Waterford and Dingle are very far apart. But yes, visit both if you can.
@LynnStAubin-od5qeАй бұрын
@ I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A three and a half hour drive means little. However I drove in England and Wales and am aware that your roads are not as “generous “ as ours😉
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
yes, be prepared for smaller roads, but of course it’s all part of the charm. Don’t hurry, take your time. The journey is part of the holiday.

It's been over 20yrs since I visited Dingle, I recognised it instantly. I have fond memories of my stay there and where I discovered soda bread 😁. I remembered strand st, though not by name. I wouldn't mind retiring to Dingle 😅. I look forward to the video in Bob Griffins bar, I think I went in there. I am sure i sat in Bob griffins and looked out at the dolphin shop and they had a poster of The Quiet Man outside. Though maybe my memory playing tricks it was 22 yrs 😂. I remember that hill (I think) and walking up it half cut going back to our B&B 😂. Yes, a lot of pubs there, surely the Irish don't drink! You must be making it up 😂. A great video Greg, it brought back good memories. It's good to see places I have been 👍
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
Ha ha, walking up the hill half cut. I’m sure you’re not alone there. Brilliant to be able to pull you down memory lane with me Rob. So glad you recognised and enjoyed it.
@WelshRob1964Ай бұрын
@nakedireland Hard to believe I would get half cut I know 😂. Some outstanding views around Dingle too, I hope you had a nose about the area even if not for the channel. Maybe I'll get back one day. Keep up the good work mate 👍
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
oh yes! Ive made a film of the Dingle Peninsula and one of Inch Beach. So there’s a few interesting things still to surface.

You mentioned the many pubs and restaurants, but are there any restaurants that serve actual, authentic Irish meals meals such as the ate 100 200 years ago?
@desmcharrisАй бұрын
I don't think we were high up on the culinary scale during the years you noted. They were tough times. Poverty, immigration, oppression aren't conducive too fancy meals. Spuds, herring's, cabbage, bacon. Porrage and butter milk, barn brack, and spuds. Dinners up!!
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
I really don’t know about that, that’s a long time ago.
@billyo54Ай бұрын
You really wouldn't want to be served what we were eating fifty years ago, never mind two hundred years ago. Tourists have a rather romantic notion about Ireland in the past. One thing is for sure, we didn't have an obesity problem back then.
@nakedirelandАй бұрын
yeah, when I was young supermarkets had only just appeared in Belfast, so my ma was still getting her food from local shops - not so much processed foods in those days. I think our diet was plain, unadventurous and not very plentiful, but much better in terms of health. No boxed pizzas or chicken nuggets. I remember that I hadn’t heard of pizza until I saw Starsky and Hutch!
@desmcharrisАй бұрын
The part in the show were you talked about the Spar! That was an immediate transport back in time to Slievegallion Dr!! And the Spar there!! Your right too, the big experience of Supermarkets was the BusyBee, the Co-op and the foremention Spar!!! Dear God how the memory's are flooding back!! Fried potato farls, toasted soda farls, then we all thought how modern it was to have Lipton's open up on the Andersonstown Rd, before it was suddenly not there!!!
