Did you even watch the interview??? It's crazy how people just can't think out of the box about this issue. NDT clearly said men are 10% faster than women on avergae, so they shouldn't compete. He then proposed that new categories are taken into account for trans people to compete. One possible suggetion was to base it off hormone levels, which is simply a brainstorming idea. Pierce has the simpler solution, which is have a trans category. Somehow I doubt that appeases the "theres only men and women" crowd

Tyson is first and foremost a public speaker, that's how he made his millions alongside selling his books. So he had to choose between science and money and I don't fault him for choosing money. The place where he lives (Manhattan) his relations, the people who buy his book, etc... He'll have to forfeit a lot of it, if he were to stand true to science.

He's more of a science communicator these days as opposed to doing his own research which is still SUPER valuable because there is a GIANT communication gap between scientists and the avg person. So he's both well read and a great communicator who is able to simplify extremely complex information. If you do it for one sport because of a loud minority you're going to have nobody in the rest of the sports because they're all going to gravitate to the one that is actually normal. Why not just give them their own sports? We did it for women and it's worked great.

Care to explain what is absurd about his argument? He’s just stating the obvious fact that Mars doesn’t make sense as an investment project today, neither as a geopolitical project (like the moon landing). How is this disparaging to Musk? As an investment, the costs are absolutely insane (over a trillion dollars) with no economic path to get a return in their lifetimes. Can you tell me how investors will make their money back? As a geopolitical project, there’s no Soviet threat anymore. China isn’t interested at all. NASA has a tiny budget, and according to Musk himself, the US government needs to cut spending asap or it will collapse.

There's no need to invest in a lifeless planet that has less than 2% density of Earth's atmosphere, almost no protection from cancerous sun rays, over 95% CO2, and many more survivability issues. One has to defeat all those problems and MAINTAIN survivability conditions on Mars which require trillions of dollars which nobody can afford.

You can't simply compare times and say, "A man ran it in 9 seconds, and a woman ran it in 10 seconds, so the difference is 10 percent." Achieving that 1-second faster time requires far more than a 10 percent advantage. The fact that the scientist is deliberately using this flawed metric demonstrates they are ideologically biased.

I know a great deal about astophysics, and I know far more about Kip Thorne or Lawrence Krauss than about Tyson. Seems to me Tyson's fame is all about time in front of a camera and not about accomplishments.
