The knowledge and incite to research OCD myself, by my CBT therapist was phenomenal. Life changing. I arrived in her office after 40years of masking, because I was, am a healing, but traumatised autistic, officially diagnosed at 47. I was at breaking point. But it was the OCD that got me in that chair 15 years ago. My children are a bit miffed that I had my OCD well under control long before covid, as my own came in the form of being a very organised extreme prepper, it started from my teenage years, didn't help that my partner was his our Army units NBC instructor, who constantly info dumped on me, when I was pregnant with his child, it controlled everything, everything I learned, everything i did, even the jobs I took, but mostly every thought, I was terrified to reach out for help until my children were teens. Fear of authorities! I reckon mine was triggered in early childhood due to food aversions, same food safe food, and eating disorders started In my teens, along with bipolar ( I now see that ) I see how it's all linked now, in hindsight. OCD was my first mental health diagnosis I got, followed by PTSD, but my therapist suspected more, my psychiatrist on the other hand was adamant it was bipolar 1. And I reluctantly agreed to try medications, I was already on medication for medical issues, fibromyalgia, I had so many blackouts, hospitalizations with GI issues and it was all too much. I was in my forties by then. I had to act, I had attempted suicide before I had children, I was scared. Understanding my OCD and the CBT over five year's I may add, was my gateway to freedom to be unapologetically myself. ~ Actually Autistic
