Fair review, but curious why you didn't also comment on how well Surf Ears keep water out? The reason I like them is because they come with several options to custom fit your ears comfortably and are a one and done purchase without ever having to replace them (like wax or untethered options). They work great in cold water and I can hear well enough compared to other options. I've had mine for six years now...$50 well spent.

to be honest, I don't find much of a difference across any of them in regard to keeping water out. They all seemed to do that quite well, with the best being the old school wax or blu-tack. glad to hear they work for you, and as mentioned, I have a very different "need" for ear plugs when I'm surfing, as I tend to not surf cold water. I just need to keep them relatively dry, and would prefer to quickly remove a plug to hear rather than rely on less-than-adequate "letting sound in". If I surfed cold water more often I could easily see the surf ears having a more consistent place and usage. For me surfing in tropical water a lot,... mehhhh.

I "hear" you! 😂I never wear them in warm water, only in cooler SoCal water, especially when the wind is blowing. Those are the conditions that most frequently cause an exostosis (aka surfers ear), which is the only reason I wear ear plugs to begin with. @@SurfStrengthCoach

I remember suggesting the Decathlon ones on your Facebook, since I’ve been using them for two years. Glad to see you liked them! Price of these things for me it’s a deal breaker.

Thanks again for the suggestion. I think they’re great value for the price. Good colors too 😊

Nice review. Been using Mac’s Aqua Block plugs for years, work perfectly and surprisingly haven’t lost one yet. Bought into the hype and picked up Surf Ears 2 when they came out but they are a waste of money.

Yea I would have to agree with what the man says..After trying most of the plugs available I ended up with the custom earplugs because keeping the water out was of most importance tho communication is not efficient to say the least..)..the surf ears say they dont disrupt hearing much and to accomplish this they basically have holes that are covered with black stickers..those stickers for me came off after less than a month of use and I never found them great to start with..They just didnt suit my ear holes tho most other people say they are fine ...depending on what you wanna spend either go blu tack or macks silicone earplugs then macks aquablock and if you really wanna push the surfboard out go with customs from a reputable place thta specialises in earplugs to prevent surfers ear

100%. If there are serious ear issues or a NEED to keep water out, custom is the way to go. 🤘

Ive been using the docs pro plugs (non vented) and ditched the leash. I made sure to print the template and get the correct size. I never pull them out mid sesh once they are in. I can hear enough for it to not be a problem. I wear them here in SoCal year round. I had the surf ears and they were uncomfortable and failed quick if not rinsed religiously.

They work well enough for me. Previous surgery in both, so no messing. I guess just comes down to fit. For me large wing, large tip size feels best. Then I also rock these little 'O' rings into the tips to increase the firm, inner fit diameter, also just making them a bit more comfortable for me with a thin hood up. Found on Amazon: sourcing map Silicone O-Rings, 9mm OD 6mm ID 1.5mm Width

I have surfers ear and have been wearing Mack’s Ear Seals for about ten years now. Tried a lot of them and they are by far the best for me. Inexpensive too.

My surf ears now have lost the mesh that would allow sound to get it, I have closed the holes with hot glue. Less sound but who cares as long as there is no water getting in.

As an ear exostosis patient (both sides, right side just operated) I really don't care about the price of the SurfEars 3.0, they have a life long customer. Not for the hype, not for the coolnes, just plain comfort and not letting the water in and hearing at least something. And doing 2 exostosis OP again versus 60EUR SurfEars - it's a no brainer for me.

As mentioned clearly in the video… it’s just about finding an ear plug that fits YOUR ear hole, regardless of the price. I’m happily content, and so are my ears, with 3$ Mack’s

I go to ChEARS hearing center here in San Diego and get custom plugs made. First set lasted for 20 years and just got my second set. Has a channel and membrane for allowing sound. Cost is worth it considering they lasted 20 years. Stopped my developing surfers ear in it's tracks.

I use Oken swimming earplugs which are budget but good. I need to wear a surf hat or hood to keep them in. Solite have solved the duckdivable surf hat conundrum. Been running the same pair of earplugs for a couple of years so I guess its working for me.

the 80's and 90's were the time to be there, no doubt. and yeah, cheaper earplugs are the way to go IMO

I surf with a lot of buddies and we love talking - so it's hard to WANT to wear an ear plug, even though my ears beg me to after 20yrs of surfing. I have to take them out constantly to hear my buddies and it's a pain in the ass

I've had 3 pairs of the surf ears and for me they're far and away the best. I do a lot of free diving and they were the easiest to equalize quickly - the docs pro plugs are some of the worst, fall out every time

it,s something you have to get used to but it certainly beats the pain of hardened earwax or ear infections

I had Surf ear plugs and they keep falling out. Possibly because of my extensive exostosis. Only thing keeps water out is yup you guessed it Blutac
