Got it. The dims you added on your clip are just not the correct ones, that’s just it. But I checked CI website and you can be sure that your board width is 18 7/8, 2 3/8 thick. Your dims match mine hpsb, that’s why I got really interested in your weapons of choice. I’ve had some bad choices on buying boards, now I feel I’m on track. Take care
@marialista52928 сағат бұрын
Hi Cris! Can you confirm better the dims on your CI 2 Pro? It seems like the dims on the video don´t match with the CI site stock boards. 5'11 should come at 18 7/8 - 2 3/8. Thanks
@SurfStrengthCoach7 сағат бұрын
Don’t know what to tell ya, sorry. It’s in my board bag at a buddies house in the mentawais. It’s a stock 5 11’ epoxy CI pro 2 from Channel Islands in Bali. I don’t really ever mess with the dims of my 5 11” shortboards

Great breakdown, Cris. One thing I'd add, as you start to age past 50, those little potato chips get harder and harder to surf. You start to fight your loss of flexibility and strength, which the Surf Athlete app helps with, but your body just ain't what it was when you were in your 20s. Being honest with your abilities and where your fitness is will keep you surfing more waves and less frustrated. Don't be afraid to add length and volume to increase your wave count. It's not about how short of boards you can ride, it's about catching waves and having a fun time. Thanks, Cris.

Of course, as I mention in many of my board videos (I believe this one included, and if not, for certain in my new Mentawais quiver board), a "shortboard" is simply a discussion of outline and rocker, NOT length necessarily. A shortboard for me may be a 5 10', while for someone else it may be a 6 6" or 6 10". it's the outline, rocker, and shape that in my mind determines a "shortboard", or a board intended for use in quality waves and that can handle speed and power. Simply adjust all of those metrics to suit a persons needs. I'd also point out, after running MANY MANY surf coaching camps, with MANY surfers over 60yrs old, there's often a true lack of proper fitness. that's a whole other conversation! thanks for watching my videos, I appreciate it, and appreciate you taking the time to comment

Hi, Chris! Can you tell more specifically when you ride the twin fin?
@mitchc5343 күн бұрын
Keeping in mind, this is the mentawais, so pretty much all waves have push, curve, and power. So usually it’s in waves that are waist to shoulder high. If it’s a bit fatter of a wave than I’ll surf it up to head high. The more performance oriented waves I’ll surf a thruster shortboard for more control and hold. But any of the more playful waves, and where I want to do drawn out arcing turns, and surf a bit more causally:.. twin fin it is.

Yes, but it would require 1-1 consultation. ELDOA can be VERY helpful for scoliosis and can have great success, but it requires specificity which cannot be taught via KZbin. Hit me up and let’s consult, get you into a specific routine for your spine needs

always nice to understand what woks for other surfer, thanks for sharing. Can I ask you why you got a more rocked out board shorter than a staged rocker board? ci 2pro vs fever. I have a 5.10 ci 2pro, and thinking about getting a 5.7 custom fever
@SurfStrengthCoach7 күн бұрын
why a fever at such a short length? to me I want a fever longer, drawn out rail outline, more length, more control in bigger surf

Hey, what would this quiver look like for a beginner to intermediate surfer? I’m a smaller guy, 5’5 and 135 lbs. So, if I were at your level I’d probably even get small boards, both length and volume, but at an entry level should I aim for more volume and length than you have? Say, if I want an entry level performance board and go for the CI pro 2 but like a 6’3 and 32 liters for example? Just trying to get a gauge of how to calculate an equivalent quiver for a smaller body but less experince?? Thanks
@SurfStrengthCoach7 күн бұрын
beginner OR intermediate.... WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too big of a difference. 1. beginner quiver for the Mentawais doesn't really exist. it's not an ideal place for beginners. there are waves for "beginners", but I wouldn't consider it a destination, so a quiver doesn't exist. for intermediates, even that is a HUGELY loaded question. I only consider myself an upper intermediate surfer, so a lower intermediate surfer would struggle on these boards most likely. CI pro 2 is too much of a high performance shortboard if it's your first shortboard. if you can't surf it well, in the pocket, and have bad body mechanics, it will feel awful. you need something more in between and perhaps a little forgiving. to be honest, I'm not very savvy with boards outside of what I buy for myself. boards I do see that seem to do well for our guests on trips: ghost, CI happy traveller, CI flyer (for less intense waves), Seaside and Beyond, Lost quiver killer, Sweet Spot.

@@SurfStrengthCoach thanks for the long response. Just getting to understand the deep nuances and subtleties about choosing certain boards so pardon if the question was a bit out of place. Do Wim Hof breathing technique. I can comfortably hold my breath with empty lungs for 3 minutes. And I do his cold showers which you learn to breathe calmly.
@SurfStrengthCoach9 күн бұрын
If you hyperventilate for 1-2 minutes (Wim Hof breathing protocol) of course you can then hold your breath empty lung for extended periods of time. This however doesn’t work in the surf, as when a wipeout is coming, there’s no spare 1-2 minutes to hyperventilate. While Wim Hof protocols are beneficial (for other aspects of physiology) using it to solely improve breath hold times is unfounded and lacking any physiological benefit. Hence the reason why free divers don’t use Wim Hof protocols to improve their breath hold times.

What do you think about sizing up to break bad habits you developed on a short board?
@SurfStrengthCoach19 күн бұрын
For sure. On our Indonesian coaching camps (which everyone should try and join), we often put people on longer boards (I didn’t say LONGboard, I just said longer), in an effort to break various bad habits and learn to slow down / control their movement and postures.
