I love surf fishing. I'm from Mobile and surf fish from San Blas to Dauphin Island. I gave a young family 6 keeper pomps. The next day they told me they were the most delicious fish they have ever had. They were from Kentucky. The Father said it perfectly. He said the unseasoned meat tasted like a combination of fresh scallops and roasted pistachios. Who wouldn't like that??! I would step over the best beef steak to get to a fresh caught pompano any day. My wife is not a big fish eater but when I come home with pomps she gets excited. I guess that's why they're so expensive.

Definitely my favorite fish to eat! That was very nice of you to give that family some Pompano. Good luck out there Paul!

Hello Justin, congrats on being the first surf angler I've subbed to. I've watched a lot of y'all, but really like your content. Keep up the good work! I wanted to ask about keeping the rods close together. It seems logical to me, but then thought about the only time I've been surf fishing and swimmers set up a few feet away. Do you "warn" them or do you set up a wider position when you anticipate others coming out?
@JustinReedFishing Жыл бұрын
What an honor, Thanks! If there are people swimming in the water near your lines there is really not much you can do other than move. The swimmers always win. Spreading them out further can help if they are only swimming on one side of you though.

Ditto the tough year catching pompano & whiting from Jan until June. Finally seems like whiting bite is hot since July and pompano better I’ve caught a lot of baby pompano none like you caught yet but hopeful. Went out Monday and got a few small pompano and jacks between Navarre and Pensacola beach

Got a limit of Pompano this morning in Navarre! They are definitely chewing now. So happy its picking up. Sorry to hear you've had a tough year as well. I really think this year the Pompano bypassed our area. Good luck out there Wesley!

Justin, another great video!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and setup with us. One thing I like about your videos is the way you explain your setup and why you are doing it that way. Also I like how you show what baits they seem to be hitting on. What are your thoughts on pole sizes. My longest is 9ft. Is it truly beneficial to add in some 12ft poles? I looked at some bare poles the other day and was taken back by the prices. What is the true benefit? Is it just casting distance? Also, how are you choosing which sinker to use? I noticed in the video you are using sputniks and some kind of storm sinker. Are you selecting based on the waves/current that day or is it based on how far you are trying to cast?
@JustinReedFishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks Neal! Sorry for the delayed response, had a busy weekend. I actually prefer 9 to 10 foot rods because to me they are more enjoyable for me when fighting a fish. I use 12 foot rods when I need extra casting distance or when the surf is up because the added length helps keep the line out of the waves. I gain about 20 yards to my cast when going from a 9 footer to a 12. I choose my sinker weight based on what the rod throws the best and never change that weight. for my rods that is 3 and 4 ounce. I only use sputniks on the rough days when a storm sinker or pyramid will not hold bottom. in this particular video I left my sinkers at home but luckily had some random ones in my trunk and that is why I was using both a Sputnik and Storm. Hope this helps, tight lines!

GREAT VIDEO, YOU GOT DINNER?🍽️ 🐟🎣 I have been catching quite a few pompanos 🐟🐟🐟 lately, but all have been small , from PBC all the way to Forth Walton,I might get lucky and get a keeper with all the ladies mixed in, am fishing Navarre this weekend , and see if the bigger ones start running from west ⬅️ to East ➡️ yet with cooling down water temps, might be to Early, but it's worth a try,, Thanks for the Content Always,,, STAY SAFE GOD BLESS 🐟🐟🐟,,

Woohoo! Glad to see the bites picking up! Interesting to see the fish bleeding! Yeah, it’s gross, but if it makes the fish suffer less AND makes the fish taste better, it’s obviously the best thing to do. Here’s a maybe weird, few part question. I know Lady fish are usually considered undesirable eating, and Blues are often as well. Why? And as bleeding makes a difference, is there still something that makes certain fish just not good eating? I’m digging the Pensacola Beach action!
@NealLauderman Жыл бұрын
@flapjack, Justin may have a different answer but I will give my thought on lady fish. I was curious about the lady fish also so brought one home. I had a heck of a time trying to filet it. The meat was very soft, mushy, and oily which made it really hard to filet. Id say everyone should try it once :)
@JustinReedFishing Жыл бұрын
Ladyfish are just not good eating. I've tried them and was not a fan at all. I personally think Bluefish get a bad rap. With Bluefish its all about eating them fresh and cutting out all the dark meat (bloodline). Bleeding any fish will improve the quality of the meat. The meat will be whiter and firmer.
@JustinReedFishing Жыл бұрын
@@NealLauderman I agree Neal it was pretty mushy. Glad to hear you gave it a try though! I try most species of fish at least once to form my own opinion. I was hoping Ladyfish was going to be good because we catch so many here haha.

@@NealLauderman Thanks, Neil! Lol Justin definitely agrees with you! Thanks, both yinz!
@flapjackson6077 Жыл бұрын
@@JustinReedFishing LOL. From Neil’s account it sounds like a Filet O Fish sammich would be a welcome alternative to eating Lady Fish. And an interesting take on blue fish. I’ve wondered about Spanish Mackerel being considered a fine eating fish as well. Aren’t they on the oily side like blues? Seems like certain fish need to be bled and cut properly, but can be damn good eating. While some fish are just crap.
