Sounds more Spanish than surf. I like it sounds good

Like a mix between that and some middle eastern scales. Sure seems tohave a lot of that, not surprising though, considering Richard Monsour was off middle eastern decent descent.

@hrgiger Жыл бұрын
Yeah maybe I jumped the gun with the surf rock thing. I guess it's that Dick Dale & the Deltones vibe. Asian harmonic scales with a Bigsby and some Chris Isaak thrown in. Thanks for the kind words about the trem!

Any tuning issues due to Bigsby are you facing ?
@hrgiger3 жыл бұрын
Seems fairly solid. It's not a Floyd Rose, but that's not what these things are for. The responsiveness of the Bigsby is very nice to use. It bounces back at just the right tension.

Bigsby trems are not the best for surf music, I am amazed how they work at all with the one spring attached to the one side
@hrgiger2 жыл бұрын
Well this one seems to work OK! Played this guitar right the way through a lot of gigs - No issues. It's a lovely piece of kit. Of course if someone is trying to play guitar solos by Slayer using a Bigsby it's not going to work, but why would anyone do that? I've been playing for 34 years. Bigsbys have been around a lot longer - They serve their purpose in the realms of subtle pitch bends. If they were unreliable Bigsby would have stopped production long ago! If I want crazy trem dives and insane pitch bending I have guitars with Floyds and Edge tremolos. For what it is, the Bigsby does perfectly well in it's own context. Just don't play Eruption!

Put enough reverb on any guitar and people will call it Surf.
@hrgiger2 жыл бұрын
Well.... yeah! That's the essence of surf rock! A little bit of whammy bar action helps - Not too much but just enough so the chord gradually ascends. Almost like trem garnish! I guess Hank Marvin is the classic template although he uses a Fender.
@DonIsadick-mf3gv9 ай бұрын
When I think of surf I think of whammy action, open chords, blah blah. But Dick Dale was in the top three at least. Had no whammy, well he did but he didn't use it he liked his strat trem tight to the body and never used a bar. So not all surf music is necessarily wang bar music. I do like the sound of a wang bar if the guitar stays in tune. I have never had that luck and put the bars to my guitars in the neighbors yard a few houses down once I got fed up and gave em a toss. Hope the poor bastard didn't hit em with his lawn mower and send them flying to rip mister withers eye out, his neighbor. Heard there was some kind of lawsuit between those two but I'm just minding my own business playing surf on a strat without a wang bar

@hrgiger2 жыл бұрын
All subjective. I'm not sure what constitutes awful but I'm not doing anything here that is particularly out of the ordinary. The amp volume is a little quiet I suppose and you can hear the natural unplugged PLICK of my guitar above it at some points. Are your speakers working OK?
