Күн бұрын

Sitting in the middle of this manmade lake in Queensland Australia, sits a giant machine that creates waves designed for surfing.
Using compressed air, it’s pushed upwards, when dropped, it’s shape displaces a perfect ring of water that travels outwards, until hitting several manmade reefs, creating different height surfing waves.
Visitors can choose between 5 different areas and wave types, such as a gentle rolling waves for beginner surfers, all the way up to fast and demanding waves for expert and pro surfers, they even have waves specifically design for bodyborders.
According to Surf lakes, the system allows for up to 200 surfers and learners each hour. It's the largest surf lagoon on the planet with its 80 megaliters of water volume.
► 5 Waves World Firsts
♦ Simultaneous wave types: 5 types of waves, each of which vary in difficulty, size, length and shape, at the same time
♦ Most breaks in a wavepool: 10 separate waves (4 left and 4 right reef breaks) plus 2 beginner waves
♦ Largest surfing lagoon in the world: Water volume 80 megalitres
♦ Largest wave face height: Up to 2.4m face height. 2.2m achieved at mid-level prototype testing
♦ Highest wave productivity: At full commercial capacity, 5 Waves will be able to produce over 2,400 waves per hour, allowing up to 240 surfers in the lake at the same time, all catching 10 waves per hour
Thanks for watching

Kelly has the better wave but Occy has the better design. Kelly's wave dishes out one wave every 5-minutes whereas Occy's wave will throw out a few hundred waves per hour. If Occy can only double the height of his wave it would become unbeatable compared to all other wave pool designs IMO. But how do you generate a bigger wave with the design they have now? How about: A) Make the donut heavier and/or bigger B) Raise the donut higher before dropping it C) Install an hydraulic press to generate more force by pushing the donut down harder and faster D) Do all of the above What do you think?
@steveworden1994
@steveworden1994 5 жыл бұрын
All seem feasible...but it must not be that easy or they would have done it already unless it's a budget thing. To increase the size of the wave it seems the whole facility not just the donut (and the corresponding power plant) has to be upscaled/changed. Deeper, the breaks will have to be larger, more space to paddle in, plus more run-out space for wave energy so you don't end up w/backwash. An 8' barreling wave?! The facility would need to be enormous...

Find the resonance.! Bit like double bounce on the trampolines. All in the timing but you gotta have 2 conscentric donuts. The inner one prepares the water by inhaling the water and towards it and the outer just at the right time comes down and accelerates the water as it is going back down. Contact me for my plans if you like. Regards andy

I was born down under (Wahroonga) and then moved to "The Land of 10,000 lakes." Minnesooota. Yaaa! You Betcha! Ya Darn Tootin! "Oooh Yaaa…….Dat looks good Der Bub." I was fortunate enough to move back to Oz straight after high school(1996), "Good on ya Mate" learn to surf and then spend the next two decades surfing around the world. I've surfed absolutely Perfect waves on Lake Superior. I've been thinking about a way to bring waves to the countless points on countless lakes (10,000 at least) here in MN. A dream! A business plan! Let's start talking about this!
@TheCrystalCollector
@TheCrystalCollector 4 жыл бұрын
Salvitori Popadillo I’ve always thought to add these to lakes where you already have the water! Just experienced my first lake surf in Marquette a couple of weeks ago on Superior!

@@TheCrystalCollector No Way Bro! That's so cool to hear. Marquette can seriously get really sick! I've surfed there many times. It has some of the most dramatic scenery. There's nothing like walking from the parking lot down a trail a foot deep in snow, cedar trees drooped over you with pure white dipped tips cone shaped making you think of something else. And then it opens up and as you look through the snow filled air, you see it....Perfect 4 foot(7 to 8 foot faces) peaks A-framing all down the beach. Just like anywhere with that much water and wind, you'll get all kinds of waves. I'm just kidding. I wouldn't try it. Don't waste your time. ;)

I've lived in QLD for 18yrs and never heard of it! Due to it's seemngly lack of complexity and we have lots of land, I'd say it'll be a great hit. Even section off a quadrant for people who just like to romp around the surf whilst there partners/mates surf close by. The good part of this idea is that you're guaranteed a size of wave every time!!

Needs to be bigger. They are working on increasing Kelly's wave pool here in California up to 12 foot faces, they can get 8 footers now but I think for that pool to go over the top they need 12' or bigger faces along with adding some different contours to the floor of the pool so it has a few performance sections that let you cut back, bang off the white water, off the lips and whatever you like. Just so It's not a barrel /one aspect wave. Good start here, the method is simple, they need for a bit more size.
