I came to see proper saving technics after saving yesterday big drunk man in Athens beach, dragging him around 250 m to the shore with my wife. He was almost unconscious, not moving but he was barely breathing. I used technics, holding his head from the back , swimming only with my legs and my wife pulling man’s arm. I did not use any of my arm to increase speed, focusing on control of man’s head above water. Indeed, it is interesting to know shall I use one arm to increase speed but decreasing head control? I am very good swimmer, did 5k and 10k open water swim, but I was totally exhausted after 250 swim to the shore. No rescue assisted us in the water. Hope the man survived, he was barely breathing at the shore, finally rescue arrived at the beach and ambulance took him fast.

Yeah you escape their grip by fleeing underwater. They will let go quickly once they realize that holding onto you is a sooner path to the light lmao. Then you surface from behind them and hopefully by then they can relax enough to realize it's either let you do your thing or continue sinking.

The other week ago my brother was swimming fairly far out and got in trouble. I didn't have to put his head on my chest and use the scissor stroke, but after that when I was practicing saving him, I realized he would be pretty heavy if I did do that (and a floatie wasn't at hand). Do you have any suggestions for what I should do if we were in deep water?
@Beachwise2 ай бұрын
Hey, it is actually very difficult. As a women who has practiced saving the VERY large male lifeguards, we have to use our body and strength differently. I had to put my face in the water and keep their waist up with my hips as I side stroked. Face under was easiest for me to get planed out...

When we tow someone with cross chest or chin, in our club we use double leg thrusts and then one arm strong pull. If it’s with a tube we we do same but at a point we stop and do a power pull with the rope so that the tube and patient comes forward so that is a less of a drag when swimming to shore. At all times maintain sight of the patients head and direction to the correct exit on the shore
@figueiredodiver3 жыл бұрын
yes, it is never recommended to swim without looking at the victim and without leaving your airway out of the water, perfect
@owenmorgan23823 жыл бұрын
Double leg thrusts all the way! You could technically swim side stroke and have the towing arm on the clip behind the patient. It might cause additional drag as the patient would be almost sitting up in the water.

But the drowned person will be in panic condition and he will not let us to take him like this calm methods... Most chance is that he will try to climp our body. What will we do in that conditions..? But it was good tip's and thanks..

To all the ones who think it's safe to rescue someone with no gear and no training, better actually do lifeguard training. People in risk of drowning and panicking can actually drown you too. The situations shown in this training are not near to what reality can be. You can swim like a champion but if you don't know what to look for or don't scan the water systematically you will miss the ones in need. So my advice, please watch some actual near drowning videos so you can recognize the ones in need of drowning and can act before things become instantly life threatening. If you get a victim to shore who swallowed water or choked, the most serious part just starts, so learn first aid and be aware of the risks of secondary drowning.

10 breaths in water increases the victim's chance of survival by four times, the technique of swimming facing forward while the victim is unconscious trapped in the rescue tube is inadvisable as water gets into the airways and further impairs your prognosis
@owenmorgan23823 жыл бұрын
Agreed - with closer, more contact tow techniques you have more control. The idea behind this (agreed with SLSA Wales, RLSS(UK) and the RNLI is that it’s the quickest way to get the uncon patient in for BLS/ALS or further treatment.

Around 6.21 when it shows the Lifeguards wading, then dolphin diving, followed by freestyle, why are they going in to the water with T-Shirts? I can understand rash shirts - but wouldn't a T-shirt create so much drag that the lifeguards would actually save time by taking it off before going in to the water? I always assumed that Lifeguards would take a second to quickly pull of their T-shirt before entering the water... Also, does learning Butterfly make it easy to dolphin dive? I am learning to do Butterfly - but I want to be able to do dolphin diving... don't have anyone to teach me. Or to ask the question another way, how long will it take me to learn to dolphin dive when I find someone to teach me? One lesson? Two, three?

I'm pretty sure It's for training. In IWS they do it because you might not be in your swimgear all the time, you could just be walking down the pier fully clothed and have no time to take your clothes off
@uisneaghmullen33284 жыл бұрын
In the training you also have to swim with clothes which is very hard to do and it does create a lot of drag. I think its for a real life scenario. maybe your boat sank and have to swim to safety 😂. That's what I remember

I went through the scariest situation were my nephew had fell down a a sand hill in a river and me and the father were about 400 ft away making our way to our spot witch the kids ran into the water and started playing with my daughter So he fell down the bank into deep water. His sister with lots of courage went in after him Right away my daughter started yelling for us I started running the 400 ft to them she was under because the boy was dunking her down to stay up I ran as fast as I could jumped in and swallowed a few mouth full of water couldn’t catch my breath but got to them got them to safety Lucky there was a broken down tree so that’s were I took them then me and father swam them across Could of been worse if my dougter jumped in to save her siblings
