The wildest story I heard was one day a bunch of Hells Angels showed up looking for Trouble. The Biggest Mac Meda guy of the beach ran up and Bit a Bike Seat and Tore off a chunk of leather with his bare Teeth...the Angels...rode away...

I was on the boat to Catalina . I sat down next to Steve and Debbie Pezman editors of the Surfers Journal . I told them I come form an old Wind N Sea family he told me “ we were always to stay away from those wind n sea boys , they are a dangerous bunch “

Late 70’s i was acknowledged by Chris O’rourke as a kook. Obviously still memorable to this day, and still surf Windansea occasionally.

Still gets my blood boiling. Glad to have participated. Great explanation of the way we were. I moved to Berkeley in 1971, age 27. Probably half are dead today. Mostly drug and or alcohol related.

Epic era... great editing as well. One thing I noticed. No skateboarding? Maybe another episode. Thousands of driveways and hidden streets... Nautilus Bombing Crew.

First Skateboard I ever saw was a Hobie. Guarantied to stop on every rock or piece of gravel it ran over. But to have those days back I'd swim after those long boards, and eat pavement to do it again !!

@leroybrown-coco Nautilus asphalt is not only embedded in my skin, but in my DNA sample.

My old neighbour from Mira Mesa, (the late) Jerry Shine was part of that crew, and was one of the "surf nazis" that rode the drain pipe down to the beach.

I love the old Greg Noll movies. Windansea was a hotbed of radical young talent. Great film.

Lajolla was a very anti simetic community, not allowing Jews to buy homes, I don’t think these kids wearing these uniforms is cool or punk, though these shots are rly cool to see, as I grew up surfing here (lived in Clairemont). Windansea has changed a lot even since I was a kid, it’s becoming less and less localized and more of a commercial style beach it seems. New apartments opening and condos, the renovation of the parking lot.. soon all the og pot belly long boarders will be gone, and the kids I grew up with all moved away, will it lose its vibe? Who knows

Every waspy community was anti-Semitic back then These shots were a joke. One of the kids father had a collection of Nazi gear from the war and decided it would be funny to film. The term surf Nazi just stuck for some stupid reason
