The video you watched probably used (b * h)÷2 which would find the area of ONE of the 2 congruent triangles. Because we have to find the area of TWO congruent triangles, we can simply treat the combined area of the 2 triangles as one rectangle, which is only b *h.

Wouldnt the triangle be 6 because the area of a triangle formula is 1/2 bass times hieght

If it were one triangle, the area would be 6. However, this shape has 2 congruent triangles. So you would have to double 6, which is 12. So treat the 2 triangles like a single rectangle.

Surface area of any prism the formula is 2B+PH. This isn’t correct at all.

You are probably thinking about the volume of a triangular prism and not the surface area. The volume does involve 1/2.
