My stuffed animals are rarely filthy since I always handle them with clean hands. When they do need a wash, I immerse them into soapy water, rub gently, and then immerse in clean water. I then put the toys into the washing machine for the spin cycle. They are fluffed and allow to air dry. Works great with no damage to these prized, sentimental childhood friends.

I think I previously said, "no," but recently I had to use this method to clean couches upholstered with fuzzy fabric, so I am not going to advocate for or against using this method to clean such plushies. My mind thinks scientifically, and it just cannot conceive how cleaning your type of plushies using this method actually cleans them, except superficially. In other words, I think the only way to get a definitive answer is to do some scientific testing, which is beyond me.

Where's the volume? Although I love baking soda, won't there be a little baking soda here and there still left on the stuffed animal?
@WASTHEBEST3 жыл бұрын
You mean where's the sound? My phone doesn't provide it in time-lapse mode. Yes, a little baking soda is left afterwards but, to me, baking soda is like water in dry form, completely harmless. I accidentally get baking soda on me all the time, and don't bother to wipe it away. It eventually falls on the floor, and is vacuumed away, while picking up some dirt along the way.

@@WASTHEBEST I agree that the baking soda is completely harmless. However, if one is going to flip a stuffed animal for $$$, it doesn't look good to have baking soda or any type of powder as residue because the person who buys the item may not like it.

Interesting, it never occurred to me to mix baking soda and soap, before. I used to think combining baking soda and vinegar was the most effective for cleaning, but I later discovered using baking soda and vinegar separately is many times better. So, as a rule of thumb, I only use baking soda by itself. I think baking soda is enough to sanitize by itself, and you don't have to mix it with anything.

Can I use a toothbrush instead of paper towels?
@WASTHEBEST3 жыл бұрын
I think, emphasis on the "I think," a tooth brush will pull fibers out, unnecessarily. Plus, a toothbrush can get dirt stubbornly stuck on it, and then you are stuck with cleaning with a dirty toothbrush, which dirties rather than cleans; whereas, with a paper towel, you can stop using a the dirty part of it. Yes, paper towel is disposable, but it's natural and very cheap, and is more sensible and cheaper for many applications for which reusable things can be used.

This may or may not be a great hack but with no actual instructions and it moving so fast, I can't tell if there is water being used at all, or how much, and what kind of cloth is being used. And how do you get rid of the baking soda afterward?
@WASTHEBEST3 жыл бұрын
Well, I can answer those questions for you. I prefer to use paper towels instead of cloth, because you can just throw them out when they get dirty, but I know some people still use rags for wiping things, so I won't judge you if you use rags here, too. The thing you use for wiping should be soggy, and it will remove most of the baking soda from the fur. The baking soda that is left behind will simply fall off over time. Baking soda is harmless, and absorbs dirt and odors, so it's okay to have some lingering for a bit of time.
