idk why but im gonna be honest here, this is by far the most honest and detail review but short video, its under 10 minutes! which is impressive, i have a rog g15 laptop but i felt like i wanted to buy another one for my study, for other than gaming, i feel like surface laptop 4 is the best option by far i think because of the premium build quality by microsoft and that delicious amd chips hehe, but i felt like its still too expansive for me, im gonna put this laptop for my to buy laptop list, and im gonna decide which one im gonna buy soon, thank you! love from malaysia. sorry for bad english.

Really a great video. I only play civ 6 on my pc.. its cpu heavy. Any recommendation between both if that's the only game I play in addition to regular office work

@@AaronZero Actually not. It is worse at single core performance and battery life in real world testing. It will score higher in multi-core performance with the additional cores. Biggest issue is that the AMD does throttle more on battery by what I have seen in other performance scores.

batterylife is based off very specific settings like lowering the resolution to basic HD and halfing the brightness, with specifically just internet open and nothing else in the background.

Microsoft needs to release gaming capable machines (Nvidia 3060/3070) with this design language. For some reason, manufacturers feel the need to make gaming laptops ugly. Would be refreshing to see a sleek professional looking laptop that’s capable of gaming as well.

Uhm yeah, no, that's not gonna happen. There is simply not enough room in that chassis to cool a GPU like the 3000-series. Though i am a bit worried on how this design would look if they made it way thicker in order to cool the components. I don't think it would look that sleek. There are already plenty of professional looking gaming laptops out there..but yeah, would be cool if Microsoft tried. Maybe under the Xbox brand? Since surface is more on the premium office/student/Ultrabook section

While I agree with normal gaming laptops being absolutly disgusting in terms of looks, I guess its not really the usecase for the surface laptop. It would be far better if they just add thunderbolt in order to use an external gpu for that matter. It wouldnt change much in terms of looks besides maybe replacing the usb type a port, but you could still use it as a gaming laptop since the cpus single core is actually pretty solid.

Amd variant is insanely powerful laptop for the price, i have a Dell XPS 9570 with i7 8th gen H series processor with hexacore and it is slower then the surface laptop 4 with ryzen 5. Amazing , i only wish they allow ram expansion, this will make their devices future proof and will appeal to people who like to keep their laptops for a bit longer if they can.

I believe intel cpu's are more efficient on video playback compared to AMD, it doesnt mean if it was another scenario the intel would still come ahead. great video regardless.

@@Soccercrazyigboman Funny enough AMD mobile CPUs are smoking all Intel mobile CPUs in terms of efficiency. The Intel processor in question has a TDP of 12W while the AMD processor has a TDP of 15W. It's fairly great battery life for an 8-core 16-thread mobile CPU!! And base clock is 2Ghz for AMD while Intel's runs at 1.8Ghz to add insult to injury. THAT'S how you do efficiency! OP should look at the specs first. Review left out some crucial information so I get that he might think the Intel CPU here is equivalent to the AMD one.. but it's not at all and AMD is in a different league with this one.

I'd choose AMD Ryzen surface PC because i have been using AMD all my life of using PC... But the battery performance of the AMD is not really ideal at all... But over all there both are cool... Different chips but same performance, that's cool from Microsoft.

Amd is better for desktop cpus. For these laptops though, the Intel versions are better. These laptops were designed with the newest Intel processors while the amd are last generation.

It's not the same performance. This AMD cpu has 8 cores and runs at 15w unlike Intel's 4 cores and 12w. AMD's base clock is higher as well.

Sadly you cannot plug in an eGPU so for gamers this is not a strong contender, and of course, as an ultrabook, that would only be a bonus if it did? Battery life nonsense from MS as usual as they try to fight Apple, and I do not see it being possible getting 17h SoT and MS fakes that in any case by heavily throttling performance when on the battery, whereas the M1 Macs gives you full performance on battery. I still do not see the point of a touch screen on a clamshell design and would much prefer an anti-reflective non-touch display, maybe OLED like the Spectre x360 14? The rest of the package is good, trackpad and keyboard are excellent and although the design needs a refresh, I suspect MS does not sell enough to upgrade on a regular basis, and they also need to squeeze profit margins by using last year's Ryzen chips (though still great CPU but GPU 4000
