The reason for the proprietary charger is because the surface docking station uses that to output your video, usb, sound, ethernet, etc. Though, they could have done this with usb-c or even thunderbolt.

Correct me if I’m wrong. Power button also acts as fingerprint reader, at least for the 128GB model. The sandstone color is awesome, but the display and lack of backlit keyboard is a bummer. But, the power button does shines brightly right? Does this means software updates can be done to enable backlit keyboard? Hmm..
@SoulOfTech4 жыл бұрын
Hi great inquiry, I remain corrected. The fingerprint scanner on my device was not working hence I assumed it was only available on the highest 256gb configuration, after a software re-store I can confirm the finger print scanner does exist on the 128gb variant, however I can confirm there is no backlit keyboard nor does that function exist on here. The power button only shines when pressed and is not actively lit. Thank you for watching and correcting my incorrect assumption, hope you enjoyed the video 😊

Great video! So helpful! Is this laptop good for video editing? Video editing for youtube? And would 128gb be enough?
@SoulOfTech3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I would not advise using the laptop for video editing unless it is really light editing. The processor is not designed for CPU intensive task such as those. You will need a more powerful and likely larger laptop to ensure it runs cool when editing. With that being said 128gb is ample storage if you plan on storing mostly documents and a few programs but if you will be storing lots of local files (eg; photos & videos) and install lots of programs than 128gb may be on the lesser side.

Honestly I don't get the outrage everyone throws on the lack of backlighting on the keyboard.. Who cares? When are you ever realistically going to need that? In what situation are you going to be working on a laptop like this in an area where you really need backlighting? Are you guys in countries with frequent power outages or something?
@SoulOfTech3 жыл бұрын
Hi to best understand why back lighting is important you need to think as to why it was introduced in the first place. I can give you a few reason that may help your understanding: 1) Not everyone has muscle memorization of the standard keyboard and need to see they labels of the keys. 2) People commonly use their laptops in low lit settings and the back lighting helps in those cases. 3) When you are looking for specific function keys in darker settings back lighting helps a ton! 4) Back lighting helps people with poor near sight see keys better. 5) It also adds an aesthetic appeal to the laptop, kind of like how people add multiple lamps in their room even though they may only need one. Of course none of this is to say you cannot survive without back lighting, it is however an additional aid to the keyboard.

@SoulOfTech3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I apologize if I came out as “privileged”. The tech review is from a technical point, while MS’s solution is friendly for trip scenarios it means that’s one wasted io port which can only be used for charging, a USB-C port can be used for data and power purposes at faster rates. Again it’s an objective review about the product, it’s not designed to define social aspects on a owning a product.
