Those 'diving board' trackpads as you call them have no deadzone. You can click and double-click anywhere by tapping lightly, and a long-press does the right-click action. The lower physical clicking portion is there really just for oldies who are used to mouse buttons, and until around 8-10 years ago the clickable region used to be marked out by lines on the trackpad. Those in turn were 'emulating' the even older laptops that had physically separate mouse buttons directly beneath the trackpad. History, my dude!
