I took advantage of Microsoft’s trade-in promo and traded a Surface Pro 8 with 32GB of RAM for the x Elite with the same 32GB of RAM. The SP8 worked great but horrible battery life. This new one is on another level. It’s so snappy and no lag whatsoever. Can easily get 12+hr on battery in recommended power settings but if you switch to High performance (windows powershell command required in order to see it in power settings) I’ll get around 6hrs but that’s to be expected as it uses more power but you do notice the performance grains. Regarding chrome eating up RAM. That’s a known problem from the very beginning of chrome’s existence. I also have an MacBook Pro M1 Max with 64GB of RAM and chrome try’s to suck that all up so I use chrome sparingly.
@fallinginthed33pАй бұрын
Edge behaves better than Chrome when it comes to RAM management.

When you open programs the data is usually transferred from ur storage to RAM because it is faster to process on (sending and receiving data), so if your computer uses most of your RAM its actually good, otherwise it would use the secondary storage to process with which would be much slower

After 10 years, I have dumped my iPad lineage and switched to the SP11. And haven’t looked back since. And presumably never will, unless Apple launches a similar hybrid.

I bought same base model, replaced SSD for 1TB WD SN770M just in case. Great device, my M1 MBP stay in shelf turned off since I bought Surface and become my daily driver. Mostly all my SW is native Arm and small stuff like iCloud integration and LogiOptions is x86. It feels more responsive than any Windows machine I used and even my MBP.

Wrong choice with WD SSD.. I seen a lot of reports with this WD and same issue "blue screens"

Doesn't the little stuff you mentioned and is constantly running emulated in the background guzzle up quite a bit of battery life?

"I haven't had any Surfaces in a while. This is my first one in about four years." Completely out of context, this is so relatable. I've owned three Surfaces.

Thanks for an honest review. Chrome is well known as a memory hog on any Windows PC. That is a Google decision. As you say, it is better to use the Windows browser on a Windows device and the Apple browser on an Apple device. Microsoft seems to have taken the same base engine as Google Chrome did but then has optimized Edge for use on battery powered devices. Since I have not yet found anything that I cannot do in the Edge browser, that's the browser for me.
@VladVibesАй бұрын
Or they are just deliberately ruining the Google Chrome experience inside their system to make their browser look better.

Re the Chrome battery usage... are you sure you're using the ARM native version of Chrome? It's sounds like you may be using the x64 version and emulating to run it, which uses a lot more battery. Personally, I use Edge all the time and think it's great, and I never have to worry about whether they gave me the correct installer for ARM. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Google is pointing you by default at the x64 version. Correction: You mention multiple times that you don't think the keyboard is worth $449. The $450 keyboard includes the Slim Pen 2 as well. If you just want the flex keyboard ("Surface Pro Flex Keyboard") it's $350. Sill expensive, but better. You can also use the "Surface Pro Keyboard" at $140 (which has no pen dock), or the "Surface Pro Keyboard with pen storage" (which appears to be the one you got) at $180. You can also use any of the keyboards released for the Pro X or Pro 8 or later. So there are quite a few options. I fully support MS NOT including the keyboard. I use the same keyboard over multiple versions of the device, and am very happy I don't have to keep buying a new keyboard every time. Plus, I like being able to pick whatever keyboard color I like, and especially now that there are a range of feature levels. Imagine if stores had to stock each combination of: Pro/Elite/RAM amount/Storage amount/Keyboard Color/Pen or No Pen Included/No Dock or Dock or Flex Keyboard? Optional is way better than forcing everyone to pay for it. Very fair review though!

It is still too heavy for tablet use, and there's no update on Android integration. It's truly disappointing that even after a decade since the Surface Pro's release, neither Apple nor Microsoft has managed to deliver a 2-in-1 that excels as both a tablet and a laptop.

Good video. Chrome has always been a Memory Hog. LOL..... That's why I never use that crap. Nice device, but Microsoft needs to final start including the keyboard once and for all at no extra cost.
@jirikocman2 ай бұрын
Then starting price will rise up. It is fine that it keeps compatibility, so with second Surface Pro you can reuse keyboard and pen. I bought older keyboard model, which is even localized for my native language, new one is not, same as surface laptop is not localized. But, at home I really not use that Surface keyboard - MX Keys rocks :)

Thanks for the review. When using it as a tablet for let’s say watching a full movie or reading and taking notes , would it heat up in my hand?
@morenickackerman2 ай бұрын
Absolutely not, the only time this heated up on me was during gaming, or a full brightness with heavy multitasking and even then it wasn’t even uncomfortable
@jirikocman2 ай бұрын
For movie, depends on codec. If it is HW accelerated one, then absolutely not. It will be jist slightly warmer on left upper corner, You can feel difference in normal room temperature, but nothing to mind, my phone will be warmer. Same for left lower corner when you do some intensive drive operations.

There is keyboard with fingerprint
@dpodjasek2 ай бұрын
They don't make the keyboards with fingerprint readers anymore. I'm not sure if the older ones will work on the Pro 11... depends on if it needs a driver or not.
@NighthunterNyx2 ай бұрын
@dpodjasek I just ordered one and will let you know when it arrives. It was on sale for prime day in EU Microsoft site says Surface 8 and later keyboards are compatible
@dpodjasek2 ай бұрын
@@NighthunterNyx I do remember reading that some users need to enable something in the registry to use them now, because the specs supported by the fingerprint reader don't meet the more recent security requirements (ie, they are less secure than Hello supposedly, so they make you purposely enable support for them). I don't remember if that was connected to Windows on ARM or more generally.
@NighthunterNyxАй бұрын
@@dpodjasek I just set up the fingerprint reader on my Surface pro 11 Arm. There is setting in Windows Hello to enable external fingerprint reader that you need to toggle. I guess the keyboard is external to the tablet so... It is on the Settings page where Windows Hello is set up. No need to deep dive in registry or hack something.
@NighthunterNyxАй бұрын
@@dpodjasek It says the external reader is incompatible with the "Windows Hello Enhanced Security". So yeah I guess lower security somewhat. IT works but I guess they are afraid a hacker could spoof the fingerprint reader and fake your sign-in
