Lung surfactant (surface reactant) is made of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, lecithin…Normally, your pulmonary surfactant decreases lung surface tension, and prevents the collapse of your alveoli (atelectasis)…Lack of pulmonary surfactant is seen in prematurely born neonates (babies) with neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS)…Lung Physiology…Respiratory Physiology..Pulmonology…Soaps and shampoos can be thought of as surfactants.

I don't know how I got here but now I know that my lungs will collapse if they don't produce enough surfactants and the production of surfactants is stimulated by hormones, including cortisol. Well, I guess I won't have to worry about that happening then.
