great interview. i am a lure builder from germany. i build lures for fishing seatrout(sea run trouts) in the balticsea and i think its nearly the same like stripedbass, just lighter gear. but i think we can learn much from you,guys. in fishing and lure building... most guys just use spoons and will never think if they dont catch if they dont catch in front of the parking place. its nice for the fish,but it makes me sad having no body to talk in higher level... rocks,omg i can get stuck... fishing in the wind?- no theylike to cast miles,even they dont catch anything... and then the best question, why i was always fishing alone??? cause i like to catch fish... so thanks allot for your work and all the inspitration. tight lines and keep it reel

I like his comment about not getting all bent about the fishing trip not meeting expectations. This comes down to why we are fishing in the first place. Are we running away from the stress of the rat race? If so we tend to bring that with us. His point about building the hobby up to the point where you enjoy the hunt for fish for its own sake, and doing your own thing rather than following the reports and catching for social media credit or as therapy. Don’t get me wrong, the ocean is therapeutic and anyone should feel free to take advantage, however there are higher levels to the sport that yield greater rewards. Perhaps the difference should just be noted, but the difference is in the mindset. ‘Fishing is great therapy and I even still get to kill something’ VS ‘Just getting out there is its own reward and catching something is a bonus’ I think the first quote is from someone trapped in the rat race. The second is someone who has adopted fishing as what they do, it’s not a escape it’s a passion.
