Gwen Talbert is my aunt. We who knew and loved her, thought of her as “managerial,” more than scary. She was a strong woman for sure, but had a big heart and helped many people out when they needed a hand. Thank you for giving her some air time.

Great video. I have always loved the HB library. Several years ago Dione Neutra spoke at the library and gave a walking tour where he showed us the window cleaning track among other things. He was quite disappointed that OSHA had put a stop to its use, and particularly disappointed that the water features were not full and were in a state of disrepair. It was his wish to get the water features back up and running as intended.

Walter Johnson and My father George Williams were good friends. My father was also involved in getting the library built. He was on the library board for years. I grew up going to that library and park. Thanks for preserving the history.

Looks like all the OZ books I read are gone. Not too surprising, they were pretty old when I was reading them. They were transferred from Main street when Central opened. At least they replaced all or at least most of the Baum ones with newer editions, but all the ones by other authors are gone.

Sad to see all the water features shut off and in disrepair... they were one of the big draws because they kept the building cool and the white noise they made the space soo peaceful

Once out of high school, Class of 66, I don't recall ever going to the library again. I remember a lot of winter evenings sitting in the Main Street Library doing reports though. I moved to Santa Ana in 76 then out of OC in 85. Is the Main Street Library still there or even in operation?
