If you went looking for a prototypical high-performance, wafer-thin shred stick in Jeff McCallum's dusty shaping bay, you'd come up empty-handed. That's because McCallum specializes in boards of a different breed-bonzers, fish, single-fins and everything funky from the past, but with modernized features for improved performance.
After moving to San Diego from Denver Colorado when he was 18, McCallum got a job working under shaper Chris Christenson, whose alternative design preferences had an impact on what McCallum would eventually start producing for himself. Today, McCallum's own factory, located in South San Diego, produces some of the most coveted craft in the Southern California shaping mecca.
Press play above and hear more about McCallum's designs, where he finds inspiration and the importance he places on keen craftsmanship.

Holy sh@@. Flip the logo and not sign machine shapes vs hand shapes so customers know what they are getting. Honor. Love it. Personal values and ethics. We need more humans like that. You have positive mana sir. Respect ✊🏾

Have 3 McCallums and they’re not for everyone but for the way I like to surf and for the waves I surf, they’re all magic. Keepers forevs.

I’m thinking of buying one of his boards but have never actually seen any of them in person. What do u mean when u say they’re not for everyone?🙏

@@rzadigi well, if you’re into potato chippy performance thrusters, i’m not sure you’d be into these.

@@edson720 well I don’t have any performance thrusters so maybe I’ll like them. I’m looking at a 6’6” twin of his online but somehow it’s 3” thick and that’s kinda turning me off. Sadly I can’t find much info or reviews of his boards online.

@@rzadigi where are you? any shops close by carry them? i don’t know if i’d ever want to buy a board online. his boards do work a little thicker, but yeah a twin 6’6 x 3” is probably for someone a bit bigger, maybe 180-200 lbs +.

@@edson720 I’m in countryside Japan far from any shops with his boards. They’ve got some in Tokyo that I could check if I was there but they’re all like two or three times the US cost. I’m about 200 pounds though so maybe it’d work. It’s the JMMD model at Atacama Surf in SD. It looks sweet but as you said it’s risky.

Finished shaping my 4th board. I started just to get my head out of work n Destress. Boy it helped. But most of all I'm realising how much technology goes into it. I'm loving it. My next board wiĺ be a fish :)
